August 28, 2019
Mr. Dave Mueller
Principal's Corner

Seniors and juniors gathered this morning for opening messages from their class officers and administrators. The presenters emphasized key themes: 1. We need your leadership and example, and the spirit of the school year will be shaped by the tone you set. 2. Focus on the big things and don't let concerns about small matters derail you from a positive spirit. We prayed together: "Spirit of God, we ask You to direct all our actions by Your inspirations and carry them on by Your gracious assistance." Sophomores and freshmen will have class-year meetings tomorrow.

Dismissal on Thursday will be at 2:10 p.m. During most weeks except those with an afternoon Mass, there will be one day each week with a 2:10 or 2:15 p.m. dismissal. These dates are identified in the calendar on the website at the "2019-20 School Calendar" quick link. These early dismissals provide time for academic departments to plan instructional enhancements.

Campus Ministry

Friday Morning Mass
Each Friday morning when school is in session (continuing this Friday, Aug. 30), there will be an opportunity before the school day begins to gather in our school's chapel to welcome God's grace into our lives through the Word and in the Eucharist. Mass will begin promptly at 7:00 a.m. and will typically conclude between 7:25 and 7:30 a.m. to allow for travel time before the school day begins at 7:40 a.m. It's a grace-filled opportunity for students, faculty, staff, and parents to join together in prayer before school each Friday. Our school's chapel can be found in the westernmost part of the convent building. Please know that all are welcome and invited to attend.

Opening All-School Mass

The first all-school liturgy of the 2019-2020 school year will take next Thursday, Sept. 5 at 1:20 pm in the sanctuary of Guardian Angels parish, which is located directly across Beechmont Avenue from our campus. As with each of our all-school liturgies, parents and family of students are welcome to join us as your schedule permits, and we especially extend the invitation to parents of the Class of 2023 as we welcome the first year students into our community formally for the first time. Fr. Ed Smith, a 1974 alumnus of McNicholas and the pastor of Our Lord Christ the King parish, will preside.

How does it compare to Notre-Dame? See the famous Eiffel Tower, Park Guell, The Louvre, and the Prado. Take in free time at the beach, and eat savory regional cuisine. Each day will offer a truly unforgettable experience.

"I had the amazing opportunity this past summer to study abroad in Italy and Greece. We had the opportunity to experience life in cities like Rome, Florence, Delphi, and Athens and see ancient feats of architecture, historic artworks, and the cultures of places that are vastly different from that of America. The trip to Italy and Greece not only gave me the opportunity to learn about the history of art and architecture in Italy and Greece, but also the opportunity to learn more about myself. Every day, we were given time in the cities where we were allowed to go and explore on our own, and through this I was able to find a greater sense of independence and was able to cultivate the way I handle responsibility. I was able to develop stronger relationships with my peers and make so many wonderful memories!"
