Rockets for Life host HK Derryberry
On January 18, the Rockets for Life will host a presentation by speakers HK Derryberry and Jim Bradford.
We had the pleasure of hearing their story a few months ago and would like to share this gift with all of you. HK is a young man who has persevered through disability and blindness among many other challenges, yet he approaches life with positivity. HK's story is inspiring and sheds light on the dignity of every human life. His challenges may be different than our own but we can all relate to his eagerness to overcome. You can read more about him on his website here

Annual Fund donations reaching new levels with record December
Many thanks to all members of the McNicholas community who have supported the 2017-2018 Annual Fund. We are up 36 percent from last year's record-breaking support and here's why:
  • The percentage of alumni giving to their alma mater has tripled from 3 percent to 9 percent in the last three years.
  • Total annual fund donations are up 36 percent over last year's record donations, largely because of a one month record for giving in December 2017--$105,000!
Be a part of the success and help McNicholas continue providing a faith-based education for our students!  Please click here to make an online donation to the annual fund, or contact Mark Doran, Director of Development,  mdoran@mcnhs.org or 231-3500, ext. 5141.

PTSA
Psssssst......Scoop from the PTSA (Parents, Teachers, Students Association)

S is for STUDENTS
While we parents wait and wonder through the one-word answers of the teenage years, it's helpful to keep each other informed of happenings in our students' lives, when possible.  With that, here are two behind-the-scenes events PTSA provides for your teens during the next few months at school:

Catholic Schools Week
As a way to celebrate Catholic education, PTSA provides cookies and cupcakes to students during lunch one day of this week.  This year, complimentary confections will be available in the cafeteria on Monday, January 29, 2018.   Have your student be on the lookout.
PTSA especially appreciates the efforts of Ursula Miller and Ginny Verdin in coordinating this event.

Doughnuts with the Principal
On the last Friday of each quarter, PTSA provides doughnuts for students before the start of class.  A wide assortment is available in the cafeteria, along with milk or water as a way to say, "Good job!"  Mrs. Beckert is there, too.  The next "Doughnuts with the Principal" will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018, the last day of third quarter. Encourage your student to get to school a few minutes early that morning.
PTSA especially appreciates the efforts of Sharon Tobin in coordinating this event each quarter.

T is for TEACHERS
Faculty Breakfast
On Friday, February 2, our teachers and faculty will begin their In-Service Day with homemade breakfast casseroles, assorted pastries, bagels, fruit, coffee and juice.  This is a way the PTSA shows thanks for the teachers and all they do for our students and school.
PTSA especially appreciates the efforts of Lauri Zahumensky in coordinating this breakfast.

After Prom Meeting
The After Prom planning team will meet on Monday, January 22 at 7:00 p.m. in the library at McNick.  After Prom is one of the main events sponsored by the PTSA. It provides our students with a safe and fun activity that they look forward to all year. But, an event of this magnitude truly takes an army of volunteers to plan and pull off. If you are interested in chairing a committee, serving on a committee or helping to decorate, please join us. All volunteers are welcome! This is an incredibly rewarding event to be involved with and a great way to meet other McNick parents. Questions? Please contact  Kirsten   Hagenbarth  at  khagenbarth@gmail.com . We hope to see you on the 22nd!

Calling All Artists!! Join Us for an After Prom Art Day
The After Prom Decorations Committee will hold an Art Day on Sunday, January 28 from 10:00 - 4:00 in Mr. Corbett's classroom. (Enter the convent through the side door from the courtyard and follow the signs.) Students, parents, friends and alumni are all welcome to join us as we create paper decorations for After Prom. We'll have projects available for ALL skill levels... from accomplished artist to basic beginner. Students who attend will be given service hours for their time. This is a really fun activity... a great way to meet others in the McNick community and to put your art skills to work for a great cause. Join us for the full day or just for an hour or two... whatever fits your schedule. Questions? Please contact Kirsten Hagenbarth - khagenbarth@gmail.com.
