Mr. Dave Mueller
Principal's Corner

It's so easy being GREEN during this Spirit Week leading up to Homecoming weekend, which includes the Walk, the home football opener, the dance, and several alumni events. Thanks to Student Council for planning the fun theme dress days this week. We look forward to the Walk on Friday.

Congratulations to our four National Merit Semifinalists: Dominic Daley, Madison Kouche, Jack Munzel, and Tara Reich. Their performance on the NMSQT/PSAT test has placed them among the academic top 1% of high school seniors in the nation. We thank them for the sustained hard work that led to this achievement. Our proportion of Semifinalists to our enrollment distinguishes McNicholas as one of the top-tier Cincinnati high schools recognized by National Merit.

We've experienced our first Advisory and Explore periods. Our opening Advisory periods introduced students to praying the Ignatian Examen, which we'll pray during each small-group Advisory. Thanks to Campus Minister Jeff Hutchinson-Smyth for creating this video guide.

As I visited the mini-courses offered during our first Explore period, I saw a lot of energy, engagement, and smiles. Thanks to faculty and staff members for offering sessions about their special interests, and thanks to students for being open to the fun of learning.

Like all vibrant institutions, we hold onto traditions that give life, and we are open to new practices that renew life. Today marks four weeks since the first day of classes, an opportune time to review the reasons for the updates to the daily schedule and the dress code. In this letter , I summarize the benefits of these updates.

On August 29, you received an email from McNicholas advising there are 2 new items of business that require a parent signature on Final Forms (listed below). If you have not logged in to Final Forms to complete these, please do so tonight. Your child will not be able to complete his or her requirements if  you have unsigned forms. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
  1. Student and Parent Handbook-Please click here to log in to Final Forms, read the 2019-2020 Student and Parent Handbook, and sign that you have read and agreed to the terms of the handbook.
  2. Transportation permission for school day off-campus events-Please click here to log in to Final Forms and review the permission forms regarding transportation to off-campus events via student vehicles during the school day. Driving oneself or riding with fellow students is often the only practical way for students to travel to these types of events. NOTE: Students who are 18 years old have an additional form to sign.  If you grant permission for your son or daughter who are 18 or older to drive themselves and/or other students to events, we will ask the student to sign the hard copy of the form.
