Where Love Becomes Flesh: A Vincentian Reflection on the Works of Mercy

Our FamVin formation team created a Vincentian reflection on the works of mercy to help deepen our understanding and commitment to them as members of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul.

Counsel the Doubtful

Doubt can paralyze the soul. Many who suffer materially also wrestle with deep spiritual uncertainty. St. Louise de Marillac, co-founder with Vincent, knew the interior pain of doubt and became a motherly counselor to many. To counsel the doubtful is not to impose answers but to walk with others until light dawns.

Food for thought:

  • Do I listen more than I speak when others share doubts?
  • How do I handle my own doubts?
  • Am I a companion to those who feel lost?

Prayer

God of Light,

Shine in the hearts of those who dwell in uncertainty.

Give me words of peace for the confused,

and ears that know how to listen with love.

Help me to walk with others in patience and faith.

Amen.

North Central Region Meeting

Green Bay 2026

This year our North Central Region gathered in Green Bay, Wisconsin from July 9 through July 11. The 3 days were packed with fun, friendship, spiritual growth and formation.

Thursday began with a trip to Our Lady of Champion Shrine, the only approved Marian Apparition site in the U.S. Along with a Mass, we were given a lecture by one of our Young Vincentians who now works for the Shrine about the story of Adele Joseph Brice and Our Lady of Champion.

However, what it all comes down to is something we all learned in Kindergarten – Sharing!

Having such a large area in our Archdiocesan Council, all of Lake and Cook County, it is no surprise that we have a full spectrum of financial situations amongst our Conferences.

"God and Us - One Helluva Team"

Excerpted from For Your Love Alone by Mike Syslo

Although the combination of words may be a little ironic, the meaning is true and clear.  Every team, no matter how big or small, needs at least one member to guide the others, to show them the way, to be their inspiration, their motivator.  Baseball teams, soccer teams, football teams, and management teams all have one thing in common.  At one time or another, they all have searched for a superstar to lead them on to victory.

Invite Jesus to Your Council or Conference Meeting

Wouldn’t it be great if Jesus could be physically present with us in our Conference or Council meeting? Think about it. We pray to Him, we ask Him for His guidance. We know that He is divinely present in all we do. But what would it mean to us to have Him physically present as well. It is possible.

Sacred Heart SVdP Holds Annual Car Wash Fundraiser

The Sacred Heart SVdP Conference held their Annual Car Wash Fundraiser! Money raised from the car wash is going towards local families and individuals in need through the SVdP care program, helping provide assistance for food, utilities, rent, clothing, and other essential needs.

Here are a few words from the Conference President, John Lutwyche: “Last Saturday July 11th, the members of Sacred Heart/SVdP held their annual car wash in the church parking lot. We were aided by nearly a dozen teens from nearby schools such as Stagg and Conrady. Over 50 cars were washed, with many supplies donated by Fullers Car Wash in Palos Heights. Thanks to all who participated!”
