2015 Spring Lecture Recap
By: Daniel R. Godfrey Jr., AIA, LEED AP

On May 28th Armstrong World Industries was kind enough to host the AIA Central PA Spring Lecture with Tod Williams and Billie Tsien as the guests of honor.  Prior to selecting our speakers, we were encouraged by Frank Harmon to have them speak together if at all possible.  That advice was on the mark as Tod and Billie illustrated how their relationship has translated into decades of elegant and thoughtful work.

ACE Mentoring

ACE is calling for mentors like you!
2015 ACE Fundraiser Breakfast

The 2015 ACE Fundraiser Breakfast was a great success, raising just over $19,000 for ACE scholarships. This year 12 scholarships were awarded to students in the ACE program. Among the winners were students from each of the four participating counties, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster and York. The AIA extends a HUGE thank you to all of our members and affiliates who continue to support this program through donations and mentorship. If you are interested in donating to the scholarship or becoming a mentor please contact the Central PA ACE Chairperson, Andrew Ferrari at [email protected].
Government Affairs Update
By Chris Dawson, AIA

Architects action day was held April 14th in Harrisburg with scores of architects meeting with legislators and their staff at the capitol to advocate the following:

1. Pennsylvania should adopt the current international building codes every 3 years to assure the health, safety, & welfare of building occupants and not cave to special interests that have us already 6 years behind the times
2. Opposition to the governor's proposed 6.6% sales and use tax on professional services.
3. Requiring mandatory continuing education in order to renew an architecture license every 2 years.
4. Support of a student loan forgiveness program allowing recent architecture grads to work in under-served areas in exchange for assistance with student loans.
Yeoman Architect

So you're Amish, right?  I don't know how many times I've been asked this question.  Depending on who asks my answer can vary significantly.  But as our firm is from Lancaster and we work all over the country, I decided to provide a little historical background for those who may not be familiar with our fair city.  Because where we're from has something to do with who we are.
