A Message From the CEO/CFO

George Richards

Dear Archway Friends and Family,

The 2024 Archway Extended School Year (ESY) ended in mid-August. Its end signaled that summer was near, and preparations for the new school year were underway.

Before forging ahead, I would like to commend our teachers and staff for the extra time and support they provided our students. Throughout the ESY program, our staff worked to keep our students engaged and excited about attending school during their summer break. They scheduled numerous activities and events to maintain students' well-being and academic progress while providing a safe and caring environment, allowing them to thrive.

I enjoyed all the photos and posts covering The Archway Summer Olympics. The event has been a highlight of the Archway ESY Program for many years, and I want to thank the teachers, support staff, special services, and our maintenance crew for their outstanding work in organizing everything. Your dedication to our students provided a lifetime of memorable moments for our students and their families.

Our Just Kids staff members were also active during the summer months. The Just Kids Camp staff scheduled crafts, activities, outings, and swim time on the Archway Campus. Their dedication and commitment to students gave parents peace of mind, knowing their children were entertained, well-cared for, and safe during summer.

I want to thank the parents and guardians of recent Archway School graduates who took the initiative to enroll their loved ones in our Advanced Abilities Day Program (AADP). The program, which offers a welcome option for bridging the gap in services many parents face, is a welcome addition to Archway Programs' services. It reassuringly reminds parents and guardians that Archway is there with families during every step of their journey with an unmatched continuum of care they know and trust.

The Archway Adult Counseling and Therapy (ACT) Program will host a special Talent Show on September 11th. Although this event is for program consumers only, watch our social media pages and website, as we will share photos and show highlights.

Thank you to the Archway HR staff and department leaders for hosting a successful Archway Job Fair. I appreciate the work and dedication of everyone involved in sharing the excellent career opportunities available here at Archway. Thank you to ABC News for sharing our message with their viewers during your broadcast.

As we begin the new school year, I'm excited to welcome back our dedicated staff and look forward to the many events planned for our students. It will be an especially inspiring year as Archway Programs approaches its 60th anniversary in 2025, a testament to your continued dedication and support. Thank you for all you do. We would not be here without all of you.

Sincerely,

George Richards

Annual Upper School Prepares for a Day of Fun, Games, and Delicious Food!

The Upper School staff was bustling with activity as they prepared for their Annual BBQ Luau on August 6th. Both staff and students were looking forward to spending the day outside, as the event always offers an exciting day filled with games and delicious food!

Upper School Celebrates Summer With a BBQ Luau

Upper School staff and students celebrated a BBQ Luau on Tuesday, August 6th. Staff decorated the all-purpose room with Luau-themed wall art and grass trim. The tables had colorful coverings and centerpieces set on them. Totem poles and colorful scenes were placed around the room to add Luau flair and offer photo opportunities. Outside, staff grilled hamburgers and hot dogs to be served indoors alongside tasty salads and the delicious corn they had shucked the previous day. Delectable cupcakes topped with vanilla or chocolate frosting provided a sweet ending to everyone's meal. After eating, some students remained indoors for face painting as the festive vibe spilled outside, where students and staff enjoyed football, tug of war, bocci ball, and more! Everyone had a wonderful time before heading home for the day.

Upper School Annual Spelling Bee Celebration

Congratulations to our two Upper School Annual Spelling Bee winners! Nick and Jesse! Nick represented our younger students, and Jesse represented the older students. Mr. Dustin, Mr. Eli, and Miss Lashonda judged the competition, and Mr. Dustin also called out the words.

The winners and their respective classes enjoyed the spoils of victory, a pizza party after the competition! Yum!

Every student in the competition demonstrated their excellent skills, and we are Archway Proud of all of them!

Lower School's Miss Kate Makes Summer Learning Fun with a Luau Music Class

A floor-to-ceiling palm tree is nestled in the corner of the room, while tropical flowers pop out from corners and shelves. Students wear colorful flower leis around their necks as they settle into a circle for music. It’s theme week, and Lower School Music Therapist Miss Kate decorated her classroom to represent a Hawaiin Luau. She went all out to make the experience exciting and fun for the students. Fabulous job, Miss Kate! Thank you for making summer learning so much fun!

Students in Miss Shayla's Art Class Travel Back to the Wild Wild West

A scene from a dusty dirt western street filled the wall in the Lower School art class, while a wooden wall tapestry lined the other side. Cowboy hats hang on hooks, and wagon wheel table coverings are on every table. Lower School Art Teacher Miss Shayla has transformed her classroom into a virtual Wild West Town, complete with a leather saddle, glass lanterns, and a board with wanted posters. You can almost hear the spurs jingling as the paint-brush-slinging students pop cowboy hats on their heads and get to work on their art projects. What a fun and exciting theme! Thank you, Miss Shayla, for sharing your creativity and making ESY (Extended School Year) such a joy!

America’s Got Talent and We Found it at the Lower School!

Yes, America has talent, and it was on full display at the Lower School on August 6th! Students entertained their classmates and staff during a Lower School Edition of America’s Got Talent! Miss Shayla, LS Art Teacher, Miss Sandy, LS Secretary, and LS Nurse Rebecca were impartial judges who scored each act. No one got the dreaded buzzer, only encouragement and praise. After completing his exciting act and showing off his cartwheels, Jaden challenged Mr. John to a cartwheel contest, and it looks like Jaden won that round with 27-14 Jaden! The contestants all did an excellent job, and the show was entertaining! Thank you to all the staff working behind the scenes to make this a memorable moment for the students.

Lower School Field Trip to the Movies

The students from the Lower School were excited to go on a field trip to the movies to see "Despicable Me." The group stretched out in oversized, comfy recliners with popcorn buckets, drinks, and goodies in hand and enjoyed the movie together.

Just Kids August Recap

August was a month of exploration and adventure across all Just Kids locations. The kids had a fantastic time at Camp Avon! The laser maze made of string was so much fun - the kids had a blast going through it. Miss Kayla put together an awesome DIY escape room, and we split into teams to see who could escape first. The final puzzle was a tough one, but we managed to solve it! "Just Kids Camp Avon" was the answer. And let's not forget Waffle Wednesday with all the works - what a treat!
