BLESSED BEAVERS FORGE AHEAD
NEXT MEETING: OCTOBER 8
|
|
On September 17, a small but determined group of volunteers met for the Blessed Beavers' work party, and accomplished a lot. The four of us:
- Finished the final upright railings on the new La Casa porch
- Finished decorative trim on a large mirror in HARRE Potty
- Trimmed and pruned the Ashford ash tree in the Oasis
- Installed a new layer of insulation on the pumphouse
- Replaced the outside tarp over Common Room doors into the Dome
- Sealed/mouseproofed the Dome
- Made a new tailgate from plywood for the Ardantane pickup truck
- Checked the fire extinguishers on campus
- Found and gathered skirting material for La Casa
- Took a load of trash to the County transfer station
V was a dynamo, completing several projects on his own, and Cedar brought a tasty lunch all the way from Los Alamos for the crew.
Much thanks to Bob especially for the new La Casa porch, shown in the accompanying photo. The old porch was a safety risk and led to one injury earlier, and we are very glad to have this attractive, safer version.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS for the Beavers event on Saturday, October 8!
There are just three more Beaver Days for 2016.

Who are the Blessed Beavers?
Volunteers who help build and maintain Ardantane. They gather for weekend workdays on the second Saturday of the month (or at other times by arrangement) to help with construction, building and maintenance and clean-up tasks. Some tasks are skilled (Dome roofing) and some are simple (clean-up, painting, landscaping, even office work) but all are important. There's something for every interest and every pair of hands is helpful.
We start at 9 am and continue into the afternoon. You can join us at any time. Lunch and beverages are provided. Volunteers earn $40 in Beaver Bucks for a 6 hour day which they can use toward any Ardantane class fee. There's also a dream catcher bag and an embroidered emblem for the new folks. So bring your sun hat and work gloves and join us for the fun!
So please let the
Volunteer Coordinator
know if your group can help... and of course, solitaries are welcome any time! Thanks!

SECONDARY MORTGAGE STATUS
October, 2016
|
Ardantane's main bank mortgage, held by Los Alamos National Bank (LANB), was completely paid off on August 17, 2016.
We are still making payment to the smaller mortgage for the Spirit Hollow land. This parcel (2+ acres) is contiguous with Ardantane's original southern boundary, and extends the property to Vista Hermosa Road on the south. It was purchased from a neighbor in 2013, and gives Ardantane a second potential entry/exit access to the main campus, as well as an additional "cushion" between the campus and residences to the south. This area now contains a ritual circle dedicated to Hekate. There is about $15,000 principal remaining on this loan, which we hope to pay off within 1-2 years.
We thank our sustaining members for making the early payment of the major mortgage possible. For years now, all Membership contributions have gone directly toward retiring the mortgage, and now they will be directed to the Spirit Hollow loan. If you are not an Ardantane Member, please all the benefits of membership.

BENEFIT AUCTION A HUGE SUCCESS!
|
The Ardantane auction at Magickal Mountain Mabon was a big success. We raised about $2,400, which will be used to keep the campus running through the winter.
Ritual tools and altar pieces, your handcrafted mead or wine, god and goddess statues, musical instruments (especially drums), ritual and festival clothing, blades of all kinds, Paganish jewelry... all kinds of things, were offered for sale.

by Amber K and Azrael Arynn K.
Winner of the COVR Awards for Book of the Year and Best Wiccan/Pagan Book.
From Sabbat events to magick ceremonies to handfastings, ritual is at the heart of Pagan worship and celebration. Whether you're planning a simple coven initiation or an elaborate outdoor event for hundreds, RitualCraft can help you create and conduct meaningful rituals. Far from a recipe book of rote readings, this modern text explores rituals from many cultures and offers a step-by-step Neopagan framework for creating your own. The authors share their own ritual experiences-the best and the worst-illustrating the elements that contribute to successful ritual. RitualCraft covers all kinds of occasions: celebrations for families, a few people or large groups; rites of passage; Esbats and Sabbats; and personal transformation. Costumes, ethics, music, physical environment, ritual tools, safety, speech, and timing are all discussed in this all-inclusive guidebook to ritual.

| Got a HEPA air purifier or filtration unit that you're not using? Give it to Ardantane, and you can deduct the value from your taxes as a charitable donation. We have done substantial remediation in the Dome at Ardantane, to destroy black mold that had infiltrated the NE underfloor area. A generous donor paid for a Mold Technician to come to Ardantane, take samples, and report back. Our measures worked! The technician reports no significant mold levels and no professional remediation required. HOWEVER, we want to keep the air in the Dome as pure and healthy as possible. The Ardantane Board has adopted a 14-point air quality/mold prevention plan, and one part of that is to install a HEPA air purifier. It needs to be a true HEPA unit, not "HEPA-style" or "HEPA-like"; in good working condition; with prefilters and filters still manufactured and available. If you have one you're not using, and want a tax write-off AND to keep our campus healthy, please e-mail Amber or call 505-469-7777, or any member of the Ardantane staff, Board, or faculty. We'll take care of it for you. Blessed be, Amber K |
