In 2019, Federal Emergency Management Administration presented Charlotte County with preliminary coastal flood maps based on updated modeling and data from the community. Meetings were held across the county for the public to review the preliminary maps and ask questions which set the stage for the appeals and comments phase of the process. Due to the COVID pandemic the comment and appeals phase was delayed with FEMA in 2020. In March of 2021, FEMA restarted the appeals and comments phase and that ended in June 2021. FEMA has notified the county and they anticipate the preliminary flood maps to become effective in approximately nine months. This is an approximate timeline and is subject to change by FEMA. For questions about flood maps, call Floodplain Coordinator Donna Bailey at 941-623-1080
