Fall Break

Information for

Residents

Fall Break is Next Week!

We hope any finals or midterms are going well, and that you are beginning to get excited for fall break next week (October 16 - 20). As you are likely finalizing any travel or staycation plans, we wanted to send out a few reminders and FYI's related to campus hours that may affect you as a resident.

Residential Living & The Housing Office

The residence halls and apartments do not close over Fall Break - so you are welcome to stay in your housing assignment. You are not required to vacate for the period of this break and will have access to come in and out of the building as normal.

In the event that you need assistance over the break, phone numbers will be posted throughout East, West, and Maria Halls, along with the WVA to reach Housing & Residential Life staff. Glen Park and Big Bend residents should continue to utilize Public Safety (314-968-7430) for assistance in the event of an emergency. Additionally, staff will walk residential areas throughout the week as normal.

The Housing Office

The Housing Office will be open throughout fall break during business hours only, from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday (no evening or weekend hours). The Housing Office will resume normal hours on Monday, October 23th.

Mail & Packages: You are able to stop by the Housing Office during our fall break operating hours (listed above) to retrieve mail/packages. Please be sure to bring your student ID. We will not have Saturday hours on October 14th or October 21st.

Please keep in mind that all university policies and procedures are still in place over this break period.

Campus Services

Please keep in mind that a reduction of students on campus often means a reduction of staff. Please be patient if your burger or library pick-up order takes a little longer than normal.

Weather Reminder

Now that the weather is getting colder, we wanted to provide some tips for making sure your living environment is comfortable.

Make sure to switch your thermostat to warm/heat so the AC unit doesn't freeze and your pipes stay warm if you are gone overnight.

  • We recommend that your thermostat doesn't go below 70 degrees in the winter, even if you are gone for an extended period of time.
  • Please note that the first time you turn your heat on, it might have a burning smell. This is nothing to be alarmed about and very normal. Allow the heat to run for a few minutes and the smell will dissipate.
Have Fun.... Safely
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Housing & Residential Life Office.

Good luck on any midterm or final examinations/projects/papers - it is hard to believe, but there are only 10 weeks left until the end of the academic year!
