Are You Expecting Anything?
Dear Friends,
As I write this, we’ve just celebrated the life of a truly wonderful man, Mr. Billy Beckham—a faithful soul and a proud Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket. It was an honor to remember him with gratitude and joy.
At the same time, our youth are at Dooly Campground, fully immersed in a week of worship, fellowship, and fun. They arrived Sunday evening, and I can already tell you: they are encountering God in powerful ways. Watching them play, compete, worship, and respond to the Word has been like stepping back in time—a reminder of what happens when we make space for joy, connection, and spiritual hunger.
Dooly Campground holds deep personal meaning for me. My parents both went on Walk to Emmaus weekends there, and in 2005, I did too. My life was changed. There’s something about that place where the Spirit of God continues to move powerfully across generations.
This Sunday is Pentecost, when we celebrate the giving of the Holy Spirit. The word “Pentecost” means “fiftieth.” In Jewish tradition, it was the Feast of Weeks—celebrated 50 days after Passover. For us as Christians, Pentecost is 50 days after Easter. After His resurrection, Jesus remained with His disciples for 40 days, then ascended to heaven, telling them to wait. And so they waited—ten more days. And on the day of Pentecost, the Spirit came.
