Are You Fun-ancially Sound? How Adele’s actions were a gift to all of us

Hello Carole Ann,

There are a lot of things that age can unexpectedly deliver. An out of the blue liking for marmalade, a sudden appreciation of Neil Diamond and the furtive joy of afternoon naps.

However, some developments are forced upon us such as skin tags, knee-crepe and the no-escape discipline of having to consider ISA’s, pensions and investments.

As a coach I steer my clients away from unwise investments. Such as catastrophising, going to the “what’s the worst that can happen?” doom mindset and morbid overthinking.

These above energy investments give a rich return off ill-ease, gloom and comfort zone tethering leave you in the red emotionally.

What we focus on expands so I urge you all to choose to put a down payment on possibility, opportunity and potential. The premium rewards are plenty.

We need to keep ourselves topped up with healthy thoughts, in a healthy body and with a good sprinkling of magical thinking too.

What’s in your “tank” account?

The singer Adele recently declared she was stepping down from performing for a while as she had nothing left in her “tank”.

Anyone used to running on empty will know that Rolling in the Deep can become a soliloquy to the duvet. But seriously if you don’t top up your fun funds, life pretty soon loses both its colour and its flavour.

You can’t pour from an empty cup but many of us refuse to top up our reserves and run ourselves ragged as if there is something noble in sheer exhaustion and selflessness. Trust me, it’s not a good look.

I share with you now a bold and controversial statement that I stand by.

It is this - your self-care, self-love and a commitment to fun is a gift to the universe. You benefit as does everyone in your circle and it ripples out. So do us all a favour and top your tank up.

Here’s the how:

  • Diarise white space to think, stare, daydream or to smell the roses
  • Plan deliriously joyful events
  • Eat your most desirable foods and do it consciously (groans are optional)
  • Do what you love – cooking, dancing, walking in nature, reading, blowing bubbles at your cats (a morning ritual for me), playing tennis, watching old musicals, wearing sequins, loafing around, sauntering

Take time out and play seriously. Life is short and it’s not all about scrolling, toiling and competitive tiredness.

Have fun and if anyone calls you on it, blame me. Be fun-ancially wealthy and we will all feel the abundance.
