Although there has been much discussion about whether bookstores are considered an "essential service" I would argue....maybe just a little.
I am not at all comfortable being considered as essential as a doctor, nurse or emergency responder. They are the true heroes in this crisis and deserve any and all the help they need.
I would argue that a bookstore is what I would call "a tier II" essential service. We support educators, parents and administrators in the home schooling of children and young adults by providing materials and suggestions. We encourage literacy at all ages. We service an essential branch of the arts that provide the "Three E's": enlightenment, education and entertainment.
Also, there is a connectedness in the dialogue about books, authors and writing that bookstores facilitate. Independent bookstores crave, and indeed, exist for that relationship. We need this now and will still need this when we come out the other side of this crisis.
Call if you have questions (203) 730-2973- we return calls as soon as we can. Meanwhile there are some great new books!
We will continue to get your books to you the best way we know how.
Thank you, as always, for your support of independent bookselling,
