Well, I take that back. Both stripping and Belly Dance can be incredibly sensual and sexy.
But, that is where the similarities end.
Stripping:
A dance where you "strip" off your clothes
Belly Dance:
A dance where you show less skin than on a California beach
and not a thread of clothing is removed
Stripping:
A dance primarily done to seduce other people
Belly Dance: A dance primarily done for YOU as a form of empowerment
Stripping: Seductively presenting your private parts to your audience
Belly Dance:
Transforming your audience to another time and place through art, symbolism, history, and culture.
Stripping: The modern form probably originated in the UK through burlesque
Belly Dance: Originated in the Middle East thousands of years ago
(I am not judging, nor am I saying that Belly Dancers are more honorable than strippers...honor comes down to the individual character of the person. This is simply a question that nearly all Belly Dancers are tired of getting asked.)
