Debby Brown's Hocus Focus
A MONTHLY NEWSLETTER FOR COMMUNICATIONS PROFESSIONALS ON MAXIMIZING THE SUCCESS OF PHOTOGRAPHY SHOOTS WITH TIPS, IDEAS AND PHOTOS.
Hi there!

I love this time of year. I know it sounds corny and somewhat sentimental. But it's true. "The Holidays, " as we call them, have always been a happy time in my family ever since I was a tiny tyke, and that same feeling has carried over even after all these years.

So I apologize if my cheery-ness irks those of you who would rather we skip the holidays every year. I'll try to stay out of your way.

No matter how you feel, though, scroll down to see the DB&A photographers' take on the holidays. Beautiful, fun, a little edgy. As usual, there's something for everyone.

Enjoy,

Are the Holidays Dread-full to You?
Here's How to Add Some Fun
Just celebrate the ones you like

From mid-November on through the rest of the year, I'm in a good mood. It's The Holidays. They just bring out a happy spirit in me.

But I know there are plenty of you who don't really care about The Holidays. Or maybe you even actively dislike them.

i suspect it has something to do with the feeling that you can't get away from it all. The music, the marketing of Christmas and the imposed gift-giving.

But what if you could choose which holidays you wanted to celebrate? There aren't enough to go around you say? Well, Mr. and Ms. Grinch, I beg to differ.

In fact, if you wanted to celebrate a holiday today, Thursday, Dec. 10, you have a choice: Dewey Decimal System Day; or Human Rights Day; or Nobel Prize Day. They all are celebrated today.

Not feeling very book-ish or righteous or brilliant today? Okay, wait until tomorrow and you can celebrate National Noodle Ring Day. Or hold out for Saturday's National Ding-a-Ling Day.

Actually, every day of the year has something to celebrate (see the National Day Calendar), and I guarantee you'll find something to bring a smile to your Scrooge-y face. So toss off those blues and celebrate something that appeals to you more than Santa Claus (as incredible as that sounds to me).

In the meantime, have a look at what the photographers think of when you say, " Holiday."

Although my happy mood extends straight through until the end of the year, I tend to crash by the time the middle of January comes around. So what do I do? I take my mind off myself and celebrate Squirrel Appreciation Day on the 21st, of course! And for those of you who just can't think of any reason to celebrate, hang on until Jan. 16th. That's when National Nothing Day comes around.

This is the last e-newsletter until next year, so have a good one, whatever you celebrate!
