Are you a good communicator?

Hello Ted,

"Knowledge is plentiful but wisdom is scarce"- this is often said to describe the time in which we live.

The ability to communicate with people can be a challenge almost every day of our lives. We need wisdom to improve.

INSIGHTS INTO BEING A BETTER COMMUNICATOR

Share, Impart and Convey are words that often define what a person does when they communicate.

The book of PROVERBS gives great understanding into how to be a skillful communicator.

A perfect example is Proverbs 15:1:

“A soft answer turns away wrath but grievous words stir up anger”

I personally don’t know of another verse or any other writing that gives better insight into being a good communicator. I have relied upon that verse for many years

Also more verses of communication insight from Proverbs 15:

“A soothing tongue [speaking words that build up and encourage] is a tree of life, But a perversive tongue [speaking words that overwhelm and depress] crushes the spirit.

The lips of the wise spread knowledge [sifting it as chaff from the grain];

But the hearts of [shortsighted] fools are not so.

There is severe discipline for him who turns from the way [of righteousness];

And he who hates correction will die.

A scoffer [unlike a wise man] resents one who rebukes him and tries to teach him;

Nor will he go to the wise [for counsel and instruction].

A hot-tempered man stirs up strife, But he who is slow

to anger and patient calms disputes.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭15:1-2, 4, 7, 10, 12, 18‬ ‭

l Corinthians 13 is deeply insightful! Other favorite communication insights are found in this magnificent "love" chapter:

...love is patient, kind, not envious, boastful, proud, rude, self seeking, easily angered

My favorite verse of insight is, ”love does not take into account a wrong suffered" and another translation says, "love keeps no records of wrongs” I Corinthians 13:5

Near the end of I Cor. 13 the COMMUNICATION challenge in verse 11 is penetrating: “when I was a child I talked like a child, thought like a child, reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.”

What a challenge for all of us!- because that is very hard to do. BECOME A MAN/WOMAN in our thoughts and WORDS...victory is a tough road!

But with the Lord's help and power it is attainable...to keep no record of wrongs and improve in the other insights sets us free to be victorious and more successfully COMMUNICATE the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

SO...

Can you imagine how effective of a communicator we would be in church, business, our homes, politics and sharing the Gospel if we followed and lived out these insights from Proverbs and I Corinthians?!

There’s more...

ACTS:

The book of ACTS gives examples to common people who desire to communicate THE GOOD NEWS

“Jesus is ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.”

‭‭Acts‬ ‭4:11-13‬ ‭

As ordinary common people like Peter and John..what if we simply, courageously and boldly proclaimed our faith in Christ?

PLAIN AND SIMPLE IS THE KEY:

If we keep it plain and simple, people will recognize us as being ordinary- not having all the answers- but simple, dedicated followers of Jesus Christ What a great way to humbly witness and let the Holy Spirit have His way!

EXCUSES ABOUND:

Although it would be wonderful to have all the answers, and we definitely should all grow in our knowledge and faith..It's a COP OUT for a believer to say I DON’T KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT THE BIBLE, SO I AM NOT GOING TO WITNESS UNTIL I DO!

SADLY THE TRUTH IS:

I know believers who know their Bibles, are in church often, and continue to go to many classes (some on witnessing) and sadly they may even preach the great commission..however they "talk the talk" but don’t often "walk the walk"!

WB is dedicated to being ACTUAL vs THEORETICAL in our witness training

COVID-19: WHAT IF?

(It is important to know this example is not an actual experience but is meant to get you thinking)

WHAT IF: A doctor at a well known hospital discovered the vaccine to cure COVID-19 a year ago, but just kept it to himself? The media estimates 500,000 people have died related to the virus

When it was discovered the doctor had been sitting on a cure, people became outraged and demanded his death

When interviewed by 60 Minutes the doctor explained, "I didn't tell anybody because I thought they might ask me a question I couldn't answer completely. Plus, I’m not a good speaker, I’m fearful. Plus I have other commitments. Let someone else do it; I have personal priorities. The cure may be controversial. Plus, I really don’t have time for people; my schedule is jammed.."

THE DOCTOR'S STORY and OUR LIVES

How could he possibly justify overlooking 500,000 deaths just because he had other minor personal concerns that outweighed his concern for the souls of others? Could that be our commentary in our lack of proclamation of the Good News of Christ?

BELIEVER, YOUR EXCUSES TO NOT SHARE YOUR FAITH IN JESUS WON’T CUT IT!

When I first became a believer I was so excited about my faith in Jesus, but I was at a total loss how to tell others about Him, so I began to invite my unbelieving friends to hear others give their testimonies at our Christian Business Men’s meetings and churches. Much to my joy some would pray to claim Jesus as Savior and the majority heard the Word that never returns void.

YOU CAN DO THE SAME- no excuses!

MY CONFESSION:

That's obviously not a true story...

but it's exactly what I have heard and seen for 18 years throughout America in many cities and many churches of various backgrounds

THE DOCTOR EXAMPLE DESCRIBES MANY BELIEVERS IN AMERICA!

In my book, If We are the Light, Why is America So Dark?- the bottom line answer to the aforementioned book title is found on Chapter 1, page 1 and 1st sentence:

“Because believers don’t witness (of their faith in Jesus Christ) where they live, move and have their being” Acts 17:28

The first chapter also gives the following reasons

WHY WE DON’T WITNESS:

Short term mentality, Canned, Good Works, Delegation, Sermons only, Lukewarm and Theoretical not Actual

Don’t be a FULL TIME STUDENT forever...we all need to go beyond THEORY to ACTUAL

Growing in grace is essential; sharing is essential too!

PRAYING GOD’S WORD IS SO REWARDING- it can get us out and about.

"A NEW THING" prayer from last week’s eblast:

“(Ted) Forget the former things; (Ted) do not dwell on the past. See (Ted), I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; (Ted) do you not perceive it ? (Ted) I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭43:18-19‬ ‭

The NEW THING in your life could be #1 and/or #2:

1-Asking people to Christ centered gatherings, leaving the results to God.

AND / OR

2-Have WITNESS BREAKTHROUGH in your life by giving short testimonies to people you encounter in daily living

Both are positive eternal steps in becoming a good COMMUNICATOR of Jesus Christ
