Hello Nune,

For some, the end of October and beginning of November mean tossing out the jack-o-lanterns and queueing up the holiday tunes. For us at Santa Maria, it's the very same! Scroll below to see how we celebrated Halloween, our plans for holiday festivities, an inspirational story, and a certain organization's 127th birthday!

Halloween at Santa Maria

Here at Santa Maria, we take our festivities seriously! We celebrated Halloween at our centers to make the most out of this spooky season! 🎃👻 See below for some of our favorite moments.

Our Workforce Development program's Halloween Party included pumpkin and bookmark decorating, trick-or-treating, and pizza for our program participants and their families!

Halloween at Joe Williams Family Center was a spook-tastic event, complete with Halloween bingo, a costume contest, and candy prizes!

Cookies with Santa

Bring your little ones and jolly spirits for our annual Cookies with Santa! We'll have plenty of cookies, hot chocolate, and holiday cheer to welcome the season, so don't miss out on this chance to tell Santa Claus your Christmas wish! Ugly sweaters and silly holiday hats are welcome and encouraged. 🎅🍪

Toy Team 9 Drive

Stop by the Western Hills Walmart on December 7th between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. for our Holiday Toy Drive! This yearly collaboration with WCPO's Toy Team 9 works to provide toys for families and children in need right here in Price Hill, as well as all over Cincinnati! You can contribute by donating a toy in person, or by donating online or by text message. More details to come on WCPO.com and SantaMaria-Cincy.org.

Destiny & Myra

Destiny and Myra have an inspiring story that may be somewhat familiar to readers, as it made local news headlines last year and again recently. When six-month-old Myra suffered a traumatic brain injury, she was given just three days to live. But her mother, Destiny, never lost hope. Despite the odds, Myra survived and has since undergone multiple surgeries to treat her injury. She now faces lifelong challenges, including a brain disability and loss of motor skills on her left side.

Destiny, with the support of her Every Child Succeeds (ECS) Family Support Worker, Bonnie, is working tirelessly to help Myra progress and meet developmental milestones. Over the past seven months, Bonnie has assisted with therapy exercises, groceries, and even provided a new stroller when Destiny struggled with their old one.

While Myra was initially unable to sit up or turn over, she has made progress with Destiny and Bonnie’s dedication. At 18 months, Myra can now sit on her own, and the team is working towards getting her crawling and walking. Nominated by Bonnie for the United Way Wish List, Destiny and Myra will share their story in The Enquirer next month, showcasing their journey and the community support helping them move forward.

Read more about Destiny and Myra's journey in Every Child Succeeds next week in Santa Maria's fall print newsletter, or in our Success Stories.

It's almost our birthday!

On December 8th, 1897, The Sisters of Charity established Santa Maria as a settlement house to serve Cincinnati’s Italian immigrant population. Today, we provide services to more than 3,000 individuals and families in the diverse Price Hill area. We're proud of our history, and of what we're accomplishing every day with the help of our generous donors, sponsors, and community partners.

If you'd like to leave us a much-appreciated birthday gift that will go towards building a vibrant, thriving, self-sustaining Price Hill for all, you can do so here (You won't even need to wrap it!). 🎈🎉
