Destiny and Myra have an inspiring story that may be somewhat familiar to readers, as it made local news headlines last year and again recently. When six-month-old Myra suffered a traumatic brain injury, she was given just three days to live. But her mother, Destiny, never lost hope. Despite the odds, Myra survived and has since undergone multiple surgeries to treat her injury. She now faces lifelong challenges, including a brain disability and loss of motor skills on her left side.
Destiny, with the support of her Every Child Succeeds (ECS) Family Support Worker, Bonnie, is working tirelessly to help Myra progress and meet developmental milestones. Over the past seven months, Bonnie has assisted with therapy exercises, groceries, and even provided a new stroller when Destiny struggled with their old one.
While Myra was initially unable to sit up or turn over, she has made progress with Destiny and Bonnie’s dedication. At 18 months, Myra can now sit on her own, and the team is working towards getting her crawling and walking. Nominated by Bonnie for the United Way Wish List, Destiny and Myra will share their story in The Enquirer next month, showcasing their journey and the community support helping them move forward.
