Continued Enhanced Safety Measures Ahead of Weekend Crowds

Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department Emergency Repairs Notice

Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) crews are repairing a raw water main break at the Northwest Wellfield that occurred during contractor work at the location. This raw water main conveys water from the Northwest Wellfield to the Preston Water Plant. The north and northeastern portions of Miami-Dade County may potentially experience intermittent instances of lower-than-normal water pressure during peak demand times in the early morning and evening hours while repairs are completed. Crews are working around the clock on the repairs. The county does not foresee any service interruptions to our area.

The work is anticipated to be completed on or before Thursday, March 30.

Should you have any questions, please email wasdpio@miamidade.gov.

Beginning Monday, March 27, work is expected to start along Indian Creek Drive between 27 and 26 streets. The work includes closing Indian Creek Drive in this area and placing a crane in the middle of the road to construct a new section of seawall. A detour will be established to guide southbound Indian Creek Drive motorists around the work. Drivers will have to:
  • Turn east on 27 Street
  • Turn south on Collins Avenue
  • Continue south on Indian Creek Drive

One northbound and one southbound lane will be open on Collins Avenue only between 27 and 26 streets. This work is anticipated to last about two months. Access and garbage pickup to the buildings on Indian Creek Drive between 27 and 26 streets will be maintained from Collins Avenue. Please use caution while driving through this area.

This project phase is expected to be complete by the spring of 2023.

Iguana Remediation Program

Iguanas are considered an invasive species in the state of Florida. Without natural predators, these animals have been able to multiply in record numbers — causing significant damage along the entire Florida coastline. Iguanas can destroy residential and commercial landscape and vegetation as well as threaten our native and endangered species. They can also transmit the infectious bacterium Salmonella to humans through contact with water or surfaces contaminated by their feces.

To further enhance remediation efforts, the city has hired several iguana removal contractors to provide removal services on public property, including parks, greenspaces and near waterways, seven days a week in South, Mid, and North Beach areas. Vendors will be posting signage in the vicinity of their work.

Our city will continue to prioritize curbing the iguana population as well as developing strategies for a long-term remediation program. Visit our Iguana Information webpage for more information.
