It’s nearly June 1, the first day of the 2026 Summer Learning Challenge! The Summer Learning Challenge is a fun and FREE way to engage youth, families and adults by challenging them to read, explore new activities and learn new skills all summer long. Research shows that students who read four or more books over the summer are better prepared for the coming school year.⁠

El Desafío de Aprendizaje de Verano es una forma divertida – y GRATUITA – de atraer a jóvenes, familias y adultos desafiándoles a leer, explorar nuevas actividades y aprender nuevas habilidades durante todo el verano. Young engineers and creative problem-solvers are invited to explore robotics at Redwood City Public Library! Through hands-on programs using LEGO Spike Kits, kids can build and program robots while participating in fun individual and team challenges. No experience is necessary, and all materials are provided.

At Schaberg Branch Library, robotics programming is expanding this summer with new Drop-In LEGO Robotics on Tuesdays from 3:30–5pm for kids ages 5–13 (grades K–8). These sessions encourage free building, creativity, and collaborative learning.

Kid Makers: LEGO Robotics League continues on Sundays at the Downtown Library Makerspace for kids ages 8–13 (grades 3–8).

Beginning June 25, Schaberg will also introduce LEGO Robotics Skills Sessions, focused workshops for rising 3rd graders and above who ready to level up their robotics abilities. The first session, “Avoiding Obstacles,” will teach participants how to use sensors and advanced programming to maneuver robots through an obstacle course.

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, Redwood City Public Library invites the community to the final session in the online workshop series Life After Job Loss: Reigniting Commitment with Phase2Careers on Thursday, June 4, 10am–12pm via Zoom. Presented by Dr. David Petrovay, Employment Strategist and author of Out of Work NOT Out of Worth: Navigating the Emotional Side of Job Loss. This supportive workshop will focus on finding renewed motivation and direction during career transitions. Please register online to participate via Zoom.

The Library also encourages the community to register for Phase2Careers’ upcoming fundraiser, The Power of Experience, taking place Thursday, June 25 at Skyway Center SQL in San Carlos. Since 2010, Phase2Careers has provided coaching, workshops, and resources to help individuals regain confidence and momentum in today’s workforce. Register here

Nourishing Wellness: A Community Conversation on Eating Disorders

The San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services Health Ambassador Program and Supervisor Ray Mueller's Office presents this event to increase awareness and understanding of eating disorders and disordered eating. Through education, lived experience, and behavioral health expertise, it will reduce stigma, increase early education, and connect community members to support.

The presentation will be in Spanish with English interpretation.
