Next month is Florida Native Plant Month!

Fall is a wonderful time for wildflowers in Florida! The milder weather makes it a perfect time to get out and explore while there is an abundance of incredible seasonal blooms. Additionally, it is a great time to plant natives in your landscape. As such, the Florida Native Plant Society has established October as Florida Native Plant Month!

The Seedlings for Schools grant provides a variety of Florida native wildflowers, classroom resources and professional guidance on garden establishment to pre-K through 12th grade schools throughout Florida. The goal of the program is to increase students’ awareness of Florida’s native wildflowers and their role in Florida’s natural ecosystems through outdoor classrooms.

Join us on Wednesday, October 16 at 2pm for our upcoming webinar, “Tree Huggers: Florida’s Exceptional Epiphytes,” presented by Dr. Jeannine Richards, assistant professor of ecology and environmental studies at Florida Gulf Coast University’s The Water School.

On Saturday, October 19 at 9am, we are partnering with The Nature Conservancy and the Florida Native Plant Society to explore the Creek Bluffs Loop Trail at Tiger Creek Preserve, a 2.6-mile loop that follows bluffs along Tiger Creek and traverses high quality longleaf pine turkey oak sandhill habitat.

Join us on the evening of October 10 in Tallahassee for a presentation and discussion on wildflower roadsides as a nature-based climate solution! Light refreshments will be provided. This event is free to attend, but registration is requested.

This event is associated with Florida Climate Week, October 7-13, coordinated by the VoLo Foundation.
