AriSEIA's News You Can Use
June 4, 2020
Dear AriSEIA Members,

I wanted to provide a quick update on the legislative session. On May 26, 2020 the Fifty-fourth Legislature โ€“ Second Regular Session adjourned Sine Die at 11:21 am. The total days of session were 135 days, 1,607 bills were introduced, 90 were passed by the legislature, as to date zero bills have been vetoed and 58 bills have been signed by Governor Doug Ducey.

By way of background, the legislature adjourned on March 23, 2020, as a result of increased concerns related to COVID-19. The initial adjournment was to run until April 15, 2020, but with the governors Stay Home โ€“ Stay Safe Executive Order, the adjournment was extended until April 30, 2020.

SEIA Statement on Racial Injustices and its Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Following the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and too many other brown and black colleagues, friends, and family, we share in the heartache and rage over such sustained and systematic racism in our country. SEIAโ€™s commitment to relentlessly pursuing diversity, equity, and inclusion, now more than ever, takes on an even greater urgency.

COVID-19 Impacts on the U.S. Solar Industry + SEIA Webinar Series

Report: SEIA released a report examining the impacts of coronavirus on the solar workforce. The analysis shows the solar industry has lost 65,000 workers as a direct result of COVID-19, down from original forecasts that projected the industry would add more than 50,000 jobs by June 2020. We encourage you to read the report , and urge our leaders to take policy action to #SaveSolarJobs.

Webinar Series: SEIA is hosting a weekly webinar series on the impacts of COVID-19 on the solar industry. This weekโ€™s webinar will be held tomorrow, June 5 beginning at 10 a.m. Arizona time. Learn more and register here

Local and National Updates
Striving for Equity Amidst a Moral and Public Health Crisis
We are in the midst of a deeply troubling and traumatic period in the nationโ€™s history. More than 100,000 Americans have died from the coronavirus, tens of millions have lost their jobs, and these hardships are compounded and made all the more brutal for our black and brown colleagues, friends and family, who are reeling from yet another series of unjust killings.
U.S. Renewable and Clean Energy Industries Set Sights on Market Majority
For the first time, the American wind, solar, hydropower, and storage associations have come together to announce a shared vision of renewables reaching a majority of U.S. electricity generation by 2030.
SEIA, other renewable energy associations collaborate on new advocacy principles
Within a decade, it is possible that more than half of the electricity generated in the U.S. will come from renewable resources supported by energy storage. Seeing this carrot dangling in the distance, the American Wind Energy Association, Solar Energy Industries Association, National Hydropower Association, and Energy Storage Association have agreed to actively collaborate across their industry segments to achieve this target.
