AriSEIA's News You Can Use
May 6, 2021
Dear Members,

After many years of hard work, the Arizona Corporation Commission voted down the advancement of Arizona’s Clean Energy Rules yesterday. During the daylong hearing on the rules, AriSEIA alongside various environmental groups, utilities and consumer advocates all testified in support of the Rules Package. Many amendments were offered, some passing, which effectively gutted the proposed requirements to offer nothing more than lofty goals. Ultimately, the entire package failed in a 2-3 vote.

A huge thank you to Commissioner Kennedy and Commissioner Tovar for their steadfast support of the energy rules throughout and ultimate vote to not support the watered-down package. We stakeholders supporting the rules will reconvene to examine the outcome of yesterday’s hearing, discuss the next steps and will keep you posted on future calls to action.

At your service,

Nicole LaSlavic

The US solar workforce must quadruple to meet Biden’s clean energy goals
The U.S. solar industry employed 231,474 workers in 2020, a 6.7% drop from 2019 due to pandemic restrictions and increased labor productivity, according to the “National Solar Jobs Census 2020” released Thursday by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), The Solar Foundation, the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) and BW Research.
Scrap new gas infrastructure, says UN report
A major new United Nations report makes it extremely clear that relying on natural gas won’t help the world avoid climate catastrophe. Once seen as a “bridge fuel” that could provide a less-polluting alternative to coal and other fossil fuels, growing evidence shows that gas is a bigger culprit in the climate crisis than previously thought.
