AriSEIA's News You Can Use
July 29, 2021
Dear members,

AriSEIA has been actively involved with the Energy Rules at the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) alongside many other organizations that have advocated for the Rules passage.

As such, a coalition of organizations is hosting an ACC Energy Rules webinar series next week for both residential customers and business-focused stakeholders. These webinars are intended to get you up to speed on where the ACC is in its Energy Rules process.

For those who may have missed it, the ACC is continuing its second formal round of discussions on the Energy Rules after a vote during its May 26th Special Open Meeting, Arizona Corporation Commissioners reconsidered and voted to advance an amended Clean Energy Rules package (3-to-2).

The comprehensive package includes an electric energy efficiency standard, a distributed energy storage standard, and improvements to the integrated resource planning process to institute competitive, all-source requests for proposals (RFPs) and favorable siting requirements for clean energy projects developed in communities impacted by the early closure of conventional power plants -- all without modification. The most impact changes were added to the Clean Energy Standard, which will be discussed.

Please see the information below if you are interested in participating, and feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.

At your service,

Nicole LaSlavic
AriSEIA Executive Director

Local and National Updates
N.J. takes steps to double its solar power
State officials approved a plan they say will drastically increase New Jersey’s capacity for solar energy.

The Board of Public Utilities unanimously voted Wednesday to launch a new incentive program that aims to add 3,750 megawatts of solar energy by 2026, which the BPU says would double the state’s capacity.
More solar projects are coming. Whose responsibility is it to plan for where they go?
Last week, developers of a massive Southern Nevada solar facility — what would have been Nevada’s largest to date — pulled the project amid pushback from a coalition of local residents in the Moapa Valley and conservation groups.
A different kind of solar technology is poised to go big
Most solar panels covering the world’s rooftops, fields, and deserts today share the same ingredient: crystalline silicon. The material, made from raw polysilicon, is shaped into wafers and wired into solar cells, devices that convert sunlight into electricity.
