AriSEIA's News You Can Use
|
|
Dear members,
For many of us, November 3 was a date we were excited to have come and go. As a political wonk, often times Election Day has been referred to as my Olympics. And as of this morning, two-days post-election, we are still awaiting the Presidential outcome, Arizona has a new Arizona State Senator, and a flip of the Arizona State House of Representatives to blue appears to not have happened.
For those in the solar industry, there is no race more important than that for the Arizona Corporation Commission. As reported earlier this election cycle, there were three seats on the Commission that were up for election. Chairman Burns (R) was termed out, Commissioner Dunn (R) was disqualified from the ballot after not achieving the necessary signatures to qualify, and Commissioner Lea Marquez Peterson’s (R) appointed seat was up for election.
With Commissioner Dunn not qualifying for the ballot, the remaining candidates for the three seats were: Commissioner Lea Marquez Peterson (R), Eric Sloan (R), Tolleson Mayor Anna Tovar (D), former Commissioner Bill Mundell (D), former Councilwoman Shea Stanfield (D) and a write in candidate to the ballot Jim O’Connor (R).

Arizona Corporation Commission election could derail new energy rules
At least two new members are set to join the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC), which could change whether or not the newly-passed clean energy rules become permanent. The ACC, a five-member commission, regulates investor-owned and private electric, water, and gas utilities in Arizona. Currently, there are three seats on that commission available.

By investing $15 billion in clean energy, Arizona could create 1.3 million new jobs
National business group AEE released results of a report that quantified significant economic benefits associated with investments in advanced clean energy deployment for the state of Arizona. The report used an industry-standard modeling tool to estimate the impact of investing potential federal stimulus funds in advanced energy technologies, products, and services to boost economic activity in the wake of the COVID-19 slowdown.

In split vote, Arizona regulators take major step towards 100% carbon-free mandate for utilities
Arizona regulators first tried to vote on new clean energy rules in July, but that meeting broke down amid arguments over how to consider competing proposals. Since then, three regulators have found common ground on a series of targets but observers warn there is still a final vote required and a subsequent rulemaking process to navigate — along with the potential that Tuesday's election could disrupt the process.
