AriSEIA's News You Can Use
|
|
Hello members,
We need you to act!
This week, the House of Representatives amended HB 2248: Corporation Commission; Electric Generation Resources. The Senate is expected to amend SB 1175 early next week. Despite the amendment, AriSEIA still stands in strong opposition to the legislation. The two bills removed the ability of the Arizona Corporation Commission to solely act on the Clean Energy Rules package passed last year to regulate utilities’ power generation procurement activities.
The bills as amended set a 15% renewable energy standard, well below what we have already exceeded. Additionally, the bills will result in regulatory confusion, ultimately leading to the need for the courts to step in. And in the event that the legislature were to prevail in court, it would result in more government, thus discouraging investments in Arizona.
Please contact your legislators and request them to VOTE NO on HB 2248 and SB 1175. Explain to them the clean energy rules went through an extensive public review process and are currently going through formal rulemaking that involves a public comment period and two public comment sessions. These rules were developed over a multi-year period with extensive stakeholder engagement, vetting, and research.
Lastly, these clean energy rules will save ratepayers money, reduce water use and air pollution, and bolster Arizona’s economy. Now is not the time to cause harm to our state’s economy, our health, and our future. Tell them to VOTE NO on HB 2248 and SB 1175 today!

Arizona lawmakers move to strip commission from mandating use of renewable energy
State lawmakers voted Wednesday to strip the Arizona Corporation Commission of its power to mandate the use of renewable energy by utilities. HB 2248, given preliminary approval on a voice vote, bars the panel from adopting or enforcing any new policy, decision or rule that regulates the electric generation resources without specific legislative authorization.
