The Arizona Commission on the Arts is pleased to announce that Alexandra Nelson has been promoted to the position of Deputy Director. The position was most recently held by Jaime Dempsey, who was promoted to Executive Director in August.

The Arizona Commission on the Arts is currently accepting applications for two positions: Operations and Human Resources Associate and Arts Learning Manager.

The first review of applications will begin November 1st.
Operations and HR Associate
The Arizona Commission on the Arts seeks a highly-motivated and industrious Operations and Human Resources Associate, an integral member of the Arts Commission team who manages agency operations and human resources processes, coordinates logistics related to the agency’s gubernatorially-appointed commission, and provides administrative support to agency leadership.
Arts Learning Manager
The Arizona Commission on the Arts seeks a highly-motivated and industrious Operations and Human Resources Associate, an integral member of the Arts Commission team who manages agency operations and human resources processes, coordinates logistics related to the agency’s gubernatorially-appointed commission, and provides administrative support to agency leadership.
Arizona Poetry Out Loud
Registration Closes October 31, 2017
Registration is now open for 2018 Arizona Poetry Out Loud. Teachers who would like to participate register their schools for the program. Once registered, each participating teacher/school site receives a toolkit, which includes a program guide to help teach recitation and performance and a DVD and companion guide for learning recitation—free of charge.
NEA Big Read Adds Aizona Poet Laureate's "Small Story About the Sky"
The National Endowment for the Arts' Big Read program annually supports approximately 75 dynamic community reading programs, each designed around a single NEA Big Read selection. This year, the NEA added four new titles to the program's roster, including A Small Story About the Sky , by Arizona’s inaugural Poet Laureate, Alberto Alvaro Rios.
Governor's Arts Awards | Nominations Now Open

Each year, our friends at Arizona Citizens for the Arts, a statewide arts advocacy network, partner with the Office of the Governor to recognize Arizona artists, arts organizations, businesses, educators, and individuals for their passion, creativity, and devotion to the excellence and diversity of Arizona's arts and cultural community.

Arizona Citizens for the Arts has issued a call for nominations in eight categories:

Annual Summit: Autism in the Arts

Join a discussion on the ways your organization can create accessible arts experiences for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Representatives from ARTabilityAZ and Arizona arts organizations will share information on their Autism initiatives from planning to implementation to evaluation.
Social Return on Investment Survey
Deadline: October 31, 2017
Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits invites nonprofits throughout the state to participate in a survey that will build upon the 2016 study, Arizona Nonprofits: Economic Power, Positive Impact, which promoted the significant role that nonprofits play in our state's economic landscape. Every nonprofit completing a survey will be entered into a free prize draw: 25 randomly drawn winners will receive a $100 donation for their cause!
Youth Arts & Culture Engagement Grant
Deadline: November 10, 2017
Facilitated by the City of Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture’s Youth Arts & Culture Council, the Youth Arts+Culture Engagement Grant is a funding opportunity for youth-led arts and culture advisory boards, councils, art groups, clubs, and similar organizations to create projects which support the artistic and cultural work of young people or projects which introduce youth to arts and culture in the City of Phoenix.

To better understand the role racial and ethnic diversity plays in creative economy employment, the CVSuite team analyzed the earnings and minority percentages in 59 creative occupations. One finding was that, 33% of workers in the overall economy classify as a minority, while in the creative occupations, only 25% of all workers classify as a minority.

In April, NCAR released its  third annual Arts Vibrancy Index , which ranks more than 900 communities across the country, examining the level of supply, demand, and government support for the arts in each city. New this year is the ability to view the counties that are mentioned in the Arts Vibrancy Index Report.
