I-11 Action Alert
Update
In last week's LDA Newsletter, we shared our concern with Gov. Katie Hobb’s failure to stop the future I-11 Corridor project’s proposed route thru through Avra Valley. We asked our members to send letters of objections to her and other state leadership.
Since then, the Tucson Mountain Association (TMC) has sent an action alert to their members and a letter to the governor objecting to the project as supported by the Arizona State Transportation Department. In it, they urge her “to eliminate the West Option and instead consider the East Option to co-locate I-11 with I-19 and I-10.
TMC's objection letter links readers to the excellent talking points created by the Coalition for Sonoran Desert Protection (CSDP) with additional contact information for Gov. Hobbs and links to the Arizona Daily Star, the Arizona Daily Independent, and the Arizona Republic news outlets for those who want to write directly to the editors to voice opposition.
On Tuesday, Channel 13 News reported that the Pima County Board of Supervisors passed Resolution 2024, imploring Hobbs to support a route which runs parallel to Interstate 10 and to withdraw the Avra Valley route from consideration. This excellent report maps both proposed routes and illustrates the importance of keeping it out of Avra Valley.
The Living Desert Alliance urges our members to review this information and write their own letter of objection to the governor. The TMC Letter is an excellent starting point if you need assistance with information and layout.
Let your voice be heard!
To quote one of the CSDP talking points:
“The West Option would damage both natural resources and degrade the visitor experience at a wide array of public lands, especially those located in the Tucson Mountains (and Saguaro National Park).
No mitigation could offset these negative impacts.”
