President's Message
Amy Faith, EdS, CCC-SLP

My first few months as President of ArkSHA have been busy but very productive! One of my goals this year is to post regular update videos to social media, so you might have watched my most recent update. If you haven't, go check it out!! In summary, ArkSHA has a lot going on these days. The year started off with exciting news about an anticipated increase in Medicaid reimbursement for speech therapy services. On the legislative front, we are preparing for an Interim Study Proposal (ISP) that should be presented at the Senate Education Committee later this year. The ISP will focus on the retention/recruitment of school-based SLPs. We are also working on laying the groundwork for Arkansas to consider joining the Interstate Compact for Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology. We are looking forward to two great conferences this year -- the Summer Schools Conference and our annual Convention in October. Please remember that ArkSHA is YOU and we continue to need your help and support. If you're interested in volunteering, reach out to us! And as always, I can be reached via email: [email protected]. I look forward to hearing from you soon!!

ArkSHA 2022 Convention
We are looking forward to ArkSHA Convention 2022 at Embassy Suites in Little Rock. This year we are inviting you to focus on envisioning where your practice can go; elevating the level of care and services that members are providing to meet the demands we are all facing. We have focused on incorporating sessions across many settings, practice areas, and themes about the latest approaches to elevate your practice as an SLP. Whether you are in private practice, early intervention, schools, or adult medical rehab there will be tools that will assist you in bringing your vision for your practice into a reality. We are also continuing to discuss imperative issues including race, diversity/inclusion, and serving the underserved within our state.
The Convention Committee is seeking industry professionals and students to present on Friday, October 14, 2022. Your clients benefit from the shared knowledge of your industry peers. Consider submitting a call for papers and share your knowledge!
Each presentation for professionals is 1 or 2 hours and students have the option of presenting 15 or 30 minutes.

Betty Bass Graduate Student Scholarship
ArkSHA Charitable Fund
Renamed in memory of Betty Bass in October 2017, the Betty Bass Graduate Student Scholarship is given to individuals enrolled in a Communication Sciences and Disorders graduate program in the state of Arkansas.
Donations from our members allow us to offer this each year. This is separate from the ArkSHA Charitable Fund.
In December of 2019, the ArkSHA board started the ‘ArkSHA Charitable Fund’ with the Arkansas Community Foundation to provide our members and supporters with a tax-deductible way to support ArkSHA’s initiatives. This will allow ArkSHA to provide funds for educational/research purposes to a selected 501(c)3 as requested and the board sees fit.
ArkSHA Student Liaisons
These students are volunteering their time to serve as liaisons to the ArkSHA Board, sharing what they learn with their peers.

I wanted to be a part of ArkSHA because I want to be able to connect with professionals in this field. Making a connection with other professionals can lead to teamwork in helping serve and advocate the best that we can for our clients and for the community. I think a lot of people choose healthcare fields because they want to help people - ArkSHA gives the opportunity to learn how to best help others.

Being a part of ArkSHA is important to me because I get the opportunity to get a look at the career I wish to pursue, and work with people who have first-hand experience in the Communication Disorders field.

University of Central Arkansas

I am a senior at the University of Central Arkansas. I wanted to be involved with ArkSHA because it provided so many opportunities for learning and growth within the field. It is also a great way to make connections with others who work in this state and to be able to learn from them!

My favorite thing about ArkSHA is that it connects future and current clinicians. As a student member, I feel very fortunate to be connected with my state association before I have completed my schooling. I have learned the importance of connecting my fellow classmates to ArkSHA so they can benefit in the same way I have.
