Plot Against Hunger Spring Kick-off Recap
Over 100 gardeners attended Plot's annual Spring Garden Kick-off last Saturday for a program of garden workshops and presentations. Our keynote speakers were Samantha Kuhn and Mike Smith from JK Community Farm in Loudoun County, who spoke about their 150-acre farm where all crops grown there are donated to local food banks.

Powerpoints of presentations will be available next week on the Plot section of the AFAC website.

A big thank you to Plot Against Hunger Committee and AFAC volunteers, Central Library staff, Virginia Cooperative Extension and Master Gardeners, Marymount University's Food for Thought Club, Arlington Friends of Urban Agriculture (FOUA) and other community partners for your donations, volunteering, and making the event a success.

Volunteering Needs
Drivers for Farmers' Market Season
We are looking for safe and courteous volunteer drivers who are not intimidated by driving our older cargo vans through the streets of Arlington. We like to keep an open list of potential drivers available as we start the Farmers' Market seasons and do more grocery store food drives. You must be 18 and provide us with a copy of your driver's license, driving record (which you can get from the DMV) and sign our volunteer driving agreement. Email volunteer4afac@afac.org if you are interested.
Plot Against Hunger
Fresh from the Garden
Through the winter months, volunteer gardeners at the AFAC garden on Walter Reed have been protecting several raised beds of fall-sown crop spinach with row-cover. This morning, head gardener Catherine Connor showed up at the dock with a harvest of 9 large clamshells full of spinach, which went straight onto morning distribution shelves. You can't get more fresh & locally-grown than that! Thank you, Walter Reed gardeners!
Starting a Giving Garden for AFAC? Free seeds are available. Contact Plotagainsthunger@afac.org for details.
