The final round of the 2018 Walton Horton and Jeanne Campbell WSCGA Match Play Championship was far from boring. Four of the finals matches went a minimum of 18 holes. The Championship Match Lawrette McCann vs Betty Jean Armburster was full of excitement. The match changed leads 7 times on the front nine to turn at all square. Armbruster found her groove and played the next three holes one under. Armbruster won the Championship over McCann 2 & 1.
The Championship Consolation Division finals match was played by four time past champion Karin Wolfe and Colleton River's Carol Hammond. Both players fired scores in the 70's to keep the match even at the turn and take it extra holes. Hammond took this match winning on the 19th hole.
In match 3 with Karen Harwood and Leah Bohnen battling it out for the State Division Title. Harwood came
out the gate with determination and took an early lead in the match. Harwood won the State Division Flight 1.
The State One Division Consolation final match was the queen of consistency. Jeannie Reynolds vs Linda Morris. The scorecard never varied more than two up or two down throughout the match. Morris ended up stringing together a group of pars to take this match 2 & 1.
The number 6 seed played the number 8 seed in the final match of the Jeanne Horton and Walton Campbell WSCGA Match Play Championship. Mary Secoy vs. Heather Paddison. The match turned all square, but Paddison just couldn't shake the experience of Mary Secoy. Secoy won the match on the 19th Hole.
The State Two Consolation Division was played by Cathy Robinson vs. Jean Burns. This match was all square at the turn as well, then Burns took the next three holes. Robinson's competitiveness kicked in and she came back to win the match 1 up.
In the State Three Division Jennifer O'Brien vs Celeste Nalwasky. O'Brien and Nalwasky posted the exact same score on the front nine to make the turn all square. Nalwasky started to have some putts drop and took this match 3 up.
The State Three Division Consolation match was played with Caroline Buswell vs. Teresa Sprouse. The ladies played hard and made some great shots. Buswell ended up winning this one 3 & 2.
Returning to the Match Play Championship this year was the Crier's Tournament. We turned the links into a par 3 course and played a 2 best ball of the 3. The four teams were Dodge, Ligon, Stone; Moyer, Bradshaw, ,, Ellison; and Hammond, Culver, Loper; Holmes, Liley, Bethel Team Dodge wound up winning the Crier's tournament..
