By popular demand, our Crocheting/Knitting group has been revised to be a WEEKLY event! Our knowledgeable and engaging facilitator, Wendy Preslan, fiber arts professional and founder of Stitches of Kindness, a 501(c)(3) organization, enthusiastically volunteered to teach. She forsees that since everyone will come to this club with a wide range of skill levels, it would be fun to not only provide instruction, but also to have a time during the meets to share tips and ideas, a time to share what you are working on, a basic project for those that didn't bring anything to work on and a community project for those that are interested. Her vision for the group is more of a social gathering where people can meet and create beautiful things together. Please sign up at the front desk quickly since space is limited.

Mat Cutting Workshop

Friday, June 5th

10:00 am to 12:00 pm

Art instructor Alice Dudley will be teaching this hands-on workshop to show participants how to professionally cut mats for framing artwork and photographs, saving money while achieving gallery-quality results. Attendees will master measuring, bevel cutting, and mounting techniques using, mat cutters. It is ideal for artists and DIYers looking to protect and enhance their artwork. Each student will need to bring:

• A piece of Mat board (at least the size of their frame). Larger pieces (up to 60 inches) can be cut down.
• Two pieces of mat board if they want to cut a double mat.
• Ruler 
• Pencil 
• Paper for taking notes
• Double-sided tape if cutting a double mat. (ATG is recommended)

Jurassic Art Craft Class

Homestead Gardens & Killarny House Restaurant Trip

Tuesday, June 16th

We're gearing up to go to Homestead Gardens in Davidsonville! This award-winning landmark nursery boasts the East Coast’s largest selection of high-quality annuals, perennials, trees and shrubs, not to mention garden accessories, casual furniture, gifts & decor, and much, much more! We have been invited to spend a couple of hours, including a guided walkthrough tour of greenhouses and display gardens, followed by participation in our own private DIY project - a seasonal gardening container! Afterwards, each attendee will be free to shop with after receiving a coupon for 20% off their purchase. Then we will complete our excursion with lunch at the Killarny House Restaurant. (Everyone will pay and tip for their own meal). The itinerary is as follows:

• 9:15 am Depart Arnold Senior Center, 101 College Parkway, Annex A  
• 9:45 am Arrive at Homestead Gardens
• 11:30 am Depart Homestead Gardens
• 11:40 am Arrive at Killarny House Restaurant

One Room Schoolhouses in MD: Historical Lecture

Dr. James Gibb, the director of SEAL, the Archaeology Laboratory at SERC, has offered to present some of his lectures on local and national history and archaeology. This first lecture is on one-room schoolhouses in Maryland:

From the end of the Civil War to the beginning of the school consolidation movement in the 1920s, the one-room schoolhouse was the most common public building on Maryland’s rural landscape. In the public imagination, these small red buildings with banks of windows providing students with natural light and ventilation epitomized American democracy and pragmatism. This presentation explores the variability within this class of architecture, finding in each building clues to unique local histories, as well as conflicts among

educational theories that continue to this day. Please register at the front desk to attend.

Arnold Seniors, Inc. Meeting

Their mission is to support programming at the Center through volunteering, managing donations, and fundraising. Meetings are open to Center members, and attendance is encouraged. Department of Aging & Disabilities Information & Assistance Outreach

Every 3rd Wednesday, English Harper, an Information & Assistance Specialist, will be on-site to assist you with numerous resources and services available to older adults. He’ll be able to help with your questions, such as: Am I eligible for any prescription drug discount programs? Does Mom meet the eligibility requirements for services? What benefits are available to help pay for care? Is there any transportation to help me get to a doctor’s appointment? English will help sort through options, make referrals, help with forms, and follow up to be sure the right services are accessed. Making an appointment at the front desk is strongly recommended.

Reflexology Appointments

Reflexology is the technique of manipulating reflex points that correspond to specific organs and body parts found within the feet and hands. Pressure applied to the foot is believed to bring relaxation and healing to the corresponding areas of the body. Kim Murphy is a seasoned Reflexologist and Yoga Therapy trainer. She will be taking FREE, individual appointments on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, starting at 11:00 am, in 15 minute increments. This is very popular, so sign up NOW at the front desk. No-show appointments will NOT be rescheduled.

Cricut® Club Workshop

Learn all about the crafty world of Cricut® cutting machines! If you are new to Cricut® digital cutting crafts or are looking to refresh your skills, this Cricut® craft workshop is for you. Join this fun & friendly monthly workshop to learn about the vast range of crafting possibilities you can achieve with your Cricut® machine. Unravel the wonders of a Cricut® and learn to use it confidently. Create under the guidance of our experienced instructor, Kathy Lomaskin. Each month’s session will focus on a particular skill:

• Design Space Basics
• Paper & Card design basics including demo
• Self Adhesive Vinyl project basics including demo
• HTV Iron On project basics including demo
• Print & Cut basics
• Q & A Troubleshooting

If you have a laptop and/or Cricut® machine, please bring them to class, along with your standard grip cutting mat and weeding tools. Restaurant Fundraiser - "Rams Head Roadhouse"

Opened in 2004 after the Rams Head Group purchased the longtime local tavern Rudy’s, Rams Head Roadhouse has grown into a beloved neighborhood destination on the border of Annapolis and Crownsville. Over the years, it has become known for elevated yet approachable pub fare, craft beer, and a fun, welcoming atmosphere. From live music and trivia nights to community events and family-friendly gatherings, Roadhouse has remained a local favorite for nearly two decades. Enjoy elevated pub fare at their 20-seat bar, family-friendly dining room, high-top bar tables, or outdoor deck.They have invited us to dine from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and will graciously donate a percentage of sales to Arnold Seniors, Inc., including carry-out! Summer Session Fitness Classes



The summer session is from July 14th and runs through September 18th. Please remember the policy for signing up and attending these classes: Each student may sign up in person, for themselves ONLY, at the front desk beginning June 8th.

Caroline will be taking attendance for every class, and if your name is not on the roster, you will be unable to attend the class. All students attending any class MUST be a registered member of the senior activity center. Please have your member key tag, for verification. There is a $25 fee per person, per class. Must pay at time of signup. Classes are partially subsidized by Arnold Seniors, Inc.

The Arnold "Silver Sole Mates" walking group led by Kurt & Torie Thompson, meet weekly at 10:00 am at the Center for the days walk. The meeting time may be earlier as the temperatures rise. If you are interested in joining the group and participatiing, just show up!

Anne Arundel Community College Classes (AACC)

AACC classes operate as (4) ten week long semesters beginning in January, April, July, and October. Each semester of classes requires an $80 administrative fee payable to AACC by check or major credit card. Those under age 60 pay an additional $40 per course. Registration for classes ends, once a semester has begun.

Arnold Seniors, Inc. Sponsored Classes

Arnold Seniors, Incorporated (ASI), is the Centers' 501(c)(3) fundraising board whose mission is to supplement the county’s budget for supplies, services, and programs offered at the Arnold Senior Activity Center through donations management and fundraising. These classes are subsidized by the Board. Cost is $25 per class for an 8-10 week session.

Creative Oasis: Multi-Medium Open Studio Space Available

Calling all artists and crafters! Beginning June 16th, in room ANNEX 116, we will be offering open studio space, a shared, collaborative environment where artists can use the space to work independently on painting, stained glass, Cricut, woodcarving, and textile art.This is a great alternative to trying to make space at home. Come and be in the company of fellow artists while working on your own project! This space will be available on Tuesdays from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
