A note from the president

This week we saw some signs of a gradual reemergence back into downtown.
Wellworth Co-Working was featured in the Star Tribune discussing the ways they've been preparing to safely welcome back downtown office workers. It was reassuring to be able to spend an afternoon back in the office for a Zoom call, and on the patio after, knowing that our downtown partners are taking the health of our community seriously.
I have been advocating this week with our partners at the City on behalf of our small business restaurant owners in downtown. As June 1 approaches and restaurants are permitted to utilize outdoor dining spaces it is critical that we work together to find ways to safely convert sidewalks, parking spaces and other areas into cafe seating. In my conversations with Mayor Carter, he assured me that he is supportive and has his team working on several options. Councilmember Noecker also indicated support and is open to possible ordinance changes for sustaining policies that help downtown restaurants.
Congratulations are also in order this week. First to Securian Financial for making it to the Fortune 500 list for 2020. And second, to the team at Saint Paul Parks and Recreation for being recognized as one of the top three parks system s in the country for the sixth consecutive year!
Finally, a reminder that we're entering the home stretch of our Downtown BINGO game. Completed cards must be turned in by May 31. Details below.

Stay safe and be well,
Joe Spencer
