News from the Downtown Alliance

A note from the president
Happy Friday, friends!

There was great news late last week that start-up accelerator gener8tor is opening a base of operations in Saint Paul at Osborn370. Kudos are due to our partners at Full Stack , Securian Financial and the team at Osborn370 – congratulations all!

This weekend is the semi-annual Saint Paul Art Crawl, and it reminds me that 20 years ago - before the ballpark, before music venues like Palace Theatre or Amsterdam Bar and Hall, and before downtown Saint Paul was known as a food hotspot (generating our own celebrity chefs like Justin Sutherland) - the Art Crawl weekends showed our city what it's like to have our streets filled with people walking, shopping, eating and having a great time. We’ve come a long way since then, but the Saint Paul Art Crawl is still a great time.

When you’re out and about, be sure to check out the newly opened Elephant Bar . I was able to stop in for a quick preview last week, and I was really impressed by the whole team – this one will be a winner!

See you all around (down)town,

Joe Spencer
President

Clean Up Crew returns to Lowertown
SPIRE’s Lowertown Clean Up Crew is returning for a third year to help keep Saint Paul a beautiful urban destination. Once a month from May to October, volunteers pick up trash for two hours in Mears Park and throughout Lowertown. Last year volunteers logged 135 hours and collected 580 pounds of trash. The Saint Paul Downtown Alliance is excited to work with SPIRE on this year's clean up!

The Lowertown Clean Up Crew will meet at the Mears Park bandshell on Sunday May 5, June 2, July 14, August 4, September 8, and October 6.

Events downtown this weekend
This weekend will be hustling and bustling downtown as events happen in every corner.

The MN Rollergirls have their final bout of the season Saturday evening at Roy Wilkins Auditorium. If you've never been to a match this is a great one to catch.

Subtext Books will be celebrating Independent Bookstore Day all day Saturday with special events and guests planned throughout the day.

The Saint Paul Art Crawl will be taking place Friday through Sunday with more than a dozen events downtown (don't forget your free Metro Transit pass !). And on Saturday morning the Saint Paul Farmers' Market will be celebrating Opening Day 2019 with free coffee and some exciting new changes.

Mark your calendars - Joe Spencer to speak at May 22 SPACC member meeting
