A note from the president

Happy Friday and Labor Day weekend!

Today marks the official end of our 2019 Streets of Summer program and what a summer it has been! (Have you taken the survey yet?) Stay tuned for a full round up of all the events and stats in the coming weeks, but when we look back at the past 13 weeks it is amazing how quickly they've gone by and how much has been accomplishmented. The Street Team helped hundreds of visitors find their way, removed more than 500 graffiti tags and more than 2,300 gum spots. If you see them out and about this afternoon be sure to give them a wave or a high five. And keep an eye out, they may be back for special events in the coming weeks.

I also want to give a heartfelt congratulations to the entire team that made the 2019 Lowertown Sounds season a smashing success. Romantica closed out the season last night with one of my very favorite songs, check out a clip here and I'm sure you'll see why.

See you all around (down)town,

Joe Spencer

The Street Team will be out and about again this afternoon on their handy power washing trike!
Flugtag returns September 7
Next Saturday Red Bull Flugtag returns to downtown Saint Paul. The first Flugtag took place in Austria in 1992 and was last held in Saint Paul in 2010. That year 100,000 spectators came to watch as human powered flying machines soared (or attempted to soar) across the Mississippi River from Harriet Island. This event is free and open to the public and is sure to be one of the most exciting days of the year. Gates open at 10:30.

Upcoming Opportunity Zone Summit
A new federal Opportunity Zone program unlocks new resources to support large investments in targeted areas including downtown Saint Paul. The Minnesota Opportunity Collaborative is a partnership that seeks to inspire investment in designated Opportunity Zones. On September 18 they are hosting the Be Inspired Summit to bring together community and economic development professionals, and regional partners for an exciting educational and networking event.
