A note from the president
Hello Friends,

It's an exciting weekend downtown for hockey fans! The girls' state high school hockey tournament continues tonight and the championship match will take place tomorrow evening. Good luck to all the players (and welcome downtown to all out of town guests!). Also happening tomorrow is the much anticipated Greatest Day celebration. You can read more about that below. Sunday afternoon is the 7th Annual Northland Cup match up between city of Saint Paul staff and electeds and their counterparts at Ramsey County.

I also want to congratulate Lee Krueger and his team at the Port Authority on the opening of the new Saint Paul Event Center! This cool and beautiful space is a great addition to downtown Saint Paul. Adding to the excitement is the impending opening of the Pill Box tavern and the new Red's Savoy in the Treasure Island Center. The Port is owed a debt of gratitude for transforming the old Dayton's into such a vibrant new building. Keep reading for more info on this project.

Finally, we hope you'll join us and hundreds of other Saint Paul business leaders and community members next week at the Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting . I had the pleasure of hearing keynote speaker Travis McCready speak at last year's InterCity Leadership Visit and am looking forward to welcoming him to Saint Paul.

See you all around (down)town,

Joe Spencer

New tenants coming soon to Treasure Island Center
The next few weeks will bring big changes to the former Dayton's department store downtown. The brand new Saint Paul Event Center celebrated it's grand opening last night, and is the first of it's kind in the central business district. Red's Savoy Pizza, Pillbox Tavern and D1 Training will all be opening their doors soon as well. Congratulations to the entire team at Treasure Island Center and the Saint Paul Port Authority!

Celebrate the Greatest Day tomorrow
Throughout the day tomorrow, downtown Saint Paul will celebrate the 40th anniversary of what many consider to be the greatest day in USA sports history. The Greatest Day Celebration will pay tribute to Herb Brooks' legacy and the 1980 U.S. men’s gold medal winning Olympic hockey team and their victory over the USSR. The all-day event is free, family friendly, and will include a parade through downtown, hockey games, an opportunity for Olympic athlete autographs and more. The Greatest Day Celebration also marks the official close of Destination Winter, so take the chance to get one more run on the Super Slide in.
