News from the Downtown Alliance

A note from the president

August is here but there's still plenty of Streets of Summer programming ahead of us. The Street Team continues to enliven our streetscape with their welcoming presence and attention to detail when it comes to removing trash, graffiti and weeds. Musicians will be out four days a week this month, and our featured artist this week, Daniela Bianchini, will be installing even more mosaic masterpieces. A full lineup of August events can be found here .

I also want to call your attention to an exciting event our friends at Greater MSP have planned for Monday, August 5. The second annual Business Investment Summit will bring together an all-star line up of nationally leading site selection consultants, local commercial brokers, economic developers and deal-makers to better understand Greater MSP's regional competitiveness on a global scale. You can learn more about it here .

Finally, be sure to check out the details below for National Night Out!

See you all around (down)town,

Streets of Summer Artist Spotlight : Daniela Bianchini
Born and raised in Argentina, mosaic artist Daniela Bianchini has lived in Minnesota since her late teens, including several years in Lowertown, and considers this her home. She fell in love with tile work early in life and has since mastered her craft. In her own words, "I dive into the process of making mosaics with passion and excitement. My goal now is to bring it to the community."

Dani has created pieces for the Saints, the University of Minnesota, the city of Minneapolis and many other communities. T hroughout the summer she will be installing more than a dozen masterpieces right here in downtown Saint Paul. Her vision for downtown is to transform simple concrete trash cans into vibrant works of art that encourage passersby to slow down and admire their environment. If you see her working be sure to stop by and say hi.

National Night Out is this Tuesday
This Tuesday, August 6th, take to the streets to join neighbors new and old as well as friends, local business owners and others for the 36th annual Nation Night Out block party. Several downtown events will be happening, including the CapitolRiver Council party on 7th Place between St. Peter Street and Wabasha Street from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. In 2018 Saint Paul ranked 2nd nationally for National Night Out events among our peers, and this year there are more than 300 events happening around the city.
