News from the Downtown Alliance
January 24, 2019
A note from the president
Friends,

Now THIS is the weather they had in mind when Minnesota was named the Bold North a few years ago. Unfortunately it also means they had to cancel the Winter Carnival Moon Glow parade tonight, but Food Truck Friday is still on for tomorrow, and I’m even more excited about running in the Securian Winter Fun Run on Saturday.

While Winter Carnival takes up a lot of our attention over the next several days, I wanted to shine a light on downtown Saint Paul’s continued momentum. When we add up all of the projects that opened in the last year along with projects currently under construction, we see just under 1 million square feet of commercial space and 950 units of housing/hotel . That’s a lot of investment!

Stay warm and hope to see you all at this weekend’s festivities!

See you all around (down)town,

Joe Spencer

Food Truck Friday at the Winter Carnival
Don't let the chilly temps turn you away - tomorrow afternoon we'll be onsite at the Winter Carnival along with Councilmember Rebecca Noecker for Food Truck Friday: Voices of the Community. Several awesome local food trucks will be there, so plan to grab some lunch and come hang out in the warming house for lively conversation and Q&A about what's going on around downtown and Saint Paul.

Public/private partnerships and East Metro economic development
This week the Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a panel of public and private industry leaders to discuss economic development in the East Metro. Projects like AECOM's proposal for the Ramsey County owned West Publishing site and Ryan Co's plan for the Ford site illustrate the potential for truly transformative development when the public and private sectors work together.

Winterfest at Union Depot
Dozens of Minnesota breweries will be serving up specialty suds tomorrow night at Winterfest 2019. The event, happening at Union Depot, also features food pairings and other small plates from more than 30 local restaurants. Select breweries will have special beers brewed just for Winterfest. Tickets are available online and admission is good for all you can eat and drink.
