A note from the president
Friends,

Minnesota Wild hockey fans returned to downtown Saint Paul in full force for the team's season home opener at the Xcel Energy Center on Tuesday evening. And what a return it was! The Wild's epic overtime victory was thrilling — and so was seeing so many fans decked out in their Wild gear supporting downtown bars and restaurants. The extra presence in West 7th by Saint Paul Police Department officers was much appreciated. If you weren't at Tuesday's game you didn't miss all the action — read more below about Saturday's Minnesota Wild Season Kickoff Party!

Also on Tuesday, we hosted a StPL Wellness Market on the third floor of Treasure Island Center in partnership with local Saint Paul gyms, including D1 Training, Conquer Ninja Gym and Finish Line Wellness. This first-of-its-kind event featured vendors of all forms in the health and wellness industry, including companies who focus on financial wellness, physical treatment, mental health and more. If you missed the wellness market, I would invite you to visit some of these local businesses who now call Treasure Island Center home!

Carrying on the Tuesday theme: Election Day is only 12 days away on Tuesday, November 2. In Minnesota this year, we have municipal offices on our ballots (like mayors and city councilmembers) along with school board elections and other local ballot measures (like rent control here in Saint Paul). If you haven't already, I would encourage you to find out what's on your ballot and double check your polling location by visiting MNVotes.org.

Our team has enjoyed being at the International Downtown Association’s Annual Conference this week. Stay tuned for our takeaways. Keep reading to learn more about upcoming events, like the Saint Paul Art Crawl's stop at Union Depot this weekend and the great shows coming to our live music and theatre venues.

Take care,

Joe Spencer
President
Saint Paul Downtown Alliance

P.S. I also want to give a shoutout to Sue Zumberge of Subtext Books for her letter to the editor this week emphasizing the importance of local businesses in our public safety efforts. I'm so thankful for small retailers like yours!
Minnesota Wild Season Kickoff Party this Saturday
The Minnesota Wild, Herbie's On The Park and the Saint Paul Downtown Alliance are hosting a joint celebration to kick off the start of the 2021-22 Wild hockey season ahead of the Wild's game on Saturday, October 23, against the Anaheim Ducks. The event is free and open to the public and will be held at Herbie's On The Park and Rice Park. Come enjoy food, live music, lawn games and more!

If you are attending the Wild game, come early and enjoy the festivities before heading to the Xcel Energy Center. If you don't have a ticket to the game, join us on the expanded Herbie's patio where the game will be shown on a large video screen. Festivities will begin at 1 p.m. and finish up at 8 p.m.
Saint Paul Art Crawl at the Union Depot October 22-24
The Saint Paul Art Crawl has returned live for 2021, which also marks the event's 30th year! The Art Crawl started in mid-September and has stops at various locations throughout the city over the course of 12 weeks. This weekend's stop is at Union Depot.
More than 25 artists will showcase pottery, paintings, photography, jewelry and more at the Union Depot event October 22-24. Exhibits will be on the first level of Union Depot from 6-10 p.m. on Friday, 12-8 p.m. on Saturday, and 12-6 p.m. on Sunday. Learn more about the crawl's upcoming stops at StPaulArtCollective.org.
Performing arts venues welcome guests back
The concert and theatrical venues in Saint Paul are beginning to welcome guests back with new and exciting performances. Grab tickets to an upcoming show to support our downtown venues!

The Ordway Center for the Performing Arts reopened for performances in September, marking the first in-person indoor shows at the Ordway in more than 18 months. The first non-classical concert back at the Ordway will be country act Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives this Sunday, October 24. The Schubert Club reopens with its International Artist Series on November 2 and 3. Then the returning stage series Broadway @ the Ordway kicks off with “Fiddler on the Roof” on November 30.

The Palace Theatre and The Fitzgerald Theater also have great lineups this fall, including the Rocky Horror 45th Anniversary Tour with Original Star Barry Bostwick next week at The Fitz.

Eastbound Kellogg RiverCentre Bridge art design concepts
The City of Saint Paul’s Department of Public Works has released the art design concepts for the new Exchange Street Tunnel as part of the reconstruction of the Eastbound Kellogg RiverCentre Bridge. These designs were based on the first community engagement survey in which a majority of respondents indicated a preference for a design that reflects the natural landscape in the area, including the Mississippi River and the bluffs.

After viewing the proposed design concepts, share your thoughts by completing a short feedback form, open through November 30. For more information about the Eastbound Kellogg RiverCentre Bridge and to see the proposed layout of the reconstruction of the new bridge and Exchange Street Tunnel, visit StPaul.Gov/EastBoundKellogg.
