Good morning, COG family!

Only 10 days until Valentine's Day! (Men, that is my PSA of the month.)

Valentine's Day is all about expressing our love for someone. There are many ways for us to show someone we love them: buying flowers, giving jewelry, going on a date night, or even surprising that special someone with a new motorcycle.

But nothing we do can compare to the love that God has shown us. Here are just a few verses that emphasize God's endless love for us:

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16

"Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed," says the Lord, who has compassion on you.
Isaiah 54:10

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions-it is by grace you have been saved.
Ephesians 2:4-5

Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever.
Psalm 136:26

Do you have a favorite verse that expresses God's love to us? If so, I would love to read it. Email it to me and I will share it with the staff.

Be salt and light,

Pastor Chris

Love Baskets Silent Auction
Nicaragua Mission Team
There are 10 days left in the Love basket silent auction. Many baskets are already in the back corner of the main sanctuary, just waiting for your bids! You can still bring baskets or can just donate to the mission.

Love baskets are a fun way to be part of the Nicaragua mission team. This annual fundraiser helps us minister with the gospel and with medical care to thousands of people on every trip. Each year we see God’s love move in a powerful way and hundreds who come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

“Baskets” don’t have to be baskets… you can use bowls, boxes, buckets, etc.
Just a few ideas: Luxury bath basket, tool bucket “basket”, dinner and a movie for two basket, chocolate lovers' basket, pet lovers' basket/bowl, mommy’s baby bag, music lovers' basket, gourmet gift basket, salsa lovers' basket, a camping/picnic basket, pasta lovers' basket, BBQ basket, crafts-that-you-make basket. Be creative!

The silent auction will conclude on Sunday, February 14th shortly after the end of service with all proceeds going to the Nicaragua mission trip.

If you cannot make it to COG on a Sunday, feel free to come in during the week to check out the baskets and put a bid in. If you want to financially support the mission team without buying a basket, you can write a check and put "Nicaragua Team Support" on the memo line.

If you have questions about the baskets or the mission trip to Nicaragua, email Eric Paulsen.

Thank you from the Nicaragua Mission Team

Celebrations
Women's Ministry Virtual Conference
Self-care is necessary for people to thrive, especially in this time of the pandemic. Via Zoom, the speakers at the Saturday's Self-Care women's conference (Melanie Hart, Carrie Chatterton, Kim George) gave practical and applicable advice on what women can do weekly to take care of themselves. After the speakers' presentations, the 27 participants were divided into four Zoom breakout rooms where they were able to discuss the presentations and begin to formulate their self-care strategies. Follow-up emails will be sent to remind ladies to apply their self-care plans.

A special thank-you to all three speakers, who did an amazing job, and to Joyce Baker for planning and organizing this event plus handling all the technology!
Students of Grace
Winter Chill
"The show must go on”
In the face of our society today we have seen incredible leadership and vision from many institutions seeking new opportunities to stay relevant and effective in their fields. Youth ministry has changed tremendously over the last year and finding new ways to reach our students and their friends with the Gospel presents a unique challenge.

To overcome the obstacle of many area camps being closed, SOGCOG (Students of Grace - Community of Grace) held a “Winter Chill” event to engage our students socially and spiritually. With solid biblical teaching provided by guest speaker Jeff Oetter and passionate worship led by guest leader Ethan Springer, our students were challenged on many levels on what it looks like to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength” (Mark 12:30 ESV). 35 students and 15 leaders participated in the weekend consisting of four large group teaching sessions, four small group sessions, laid back times of fellowship, an escape to a clue room, and some amazing beef brisket.

One student commented on how great it was that the whole group could just get together and hang out without being “cliquey” which is a great assessment of our amazing youth ministry. If you would like to get connected with SOGCOG or know someone who should get connected, reach out to Pastor J.
