April 2018 - In This Issue:

Happy Volunteer Appreciation Week
April 15-21

Every April, the nation recognizes volunteers who foster a culture of service. At RMHCCIN, we cannot imagine the House without you.  Thank you for all you do to support the families we serve throughout the year.  You help keep families together and near the care they need!

As a token of our appreciation, we have a gift for you! Please see the Manager on Duty beginning April 15 to receive your gift.

Join Us Under The Stars For This Year's Volunteer Celebration

We are excited to announce that this year's volunteer celebration will be held  Friday, August 10 at Symphony on the Prairie beginning at 6 p.m. All registered volunteers will receive an invitation and are welcome to bring a guest. We have reserved the Bayt Pavilion where we will have dinner and a short program.  Then, join us for a delightful evening under the stars as we enjoy a tribute to The Beatles.  More details will be announced in the months to come but please mark your calendars now!

New Volunteer Orientation

The next New Volunteer Orientation will be on Thursday, May 3 from 6-9 p.m. If you know of anyone who might be interested in becoming a volunteer, please have them contact Mary Friend at mfriend@rmhccin.org or at 317-267-0605, ext. 225.
Congratulations to IUPUI Honorees

Each year, IUPUI recognizes graduating students who have shown exemplary commitment to the community and civic engagement with the William M. Plater Civic Engagement Medallion.  We are excited that two of this year's honorees volunteer at the House.
  • Bryce Nelson - Guest Services Volunteer - Limestone
  • Kailey Vernon - Guest Services Volunteer - Riley

Each Spring, IUPUI's Office of Alumni Relations also honors 100 outstanding undergraduate students who demonstrate excellence in three categories - academic excellence, campus leadership and community engagement. These Top 100 Jags represent everything that makes IUPUI exceptional. RMHCCIN volunteers who made this year's list are:
  • Daniel Kinsey- Guest Services Volunteer - Limestone
  • Kailey Vernon - Guest Services Volunteer - Riley
  • Chris Winter - Guest Services Intern - Riley
Congratulations to you all!

Summer Plans

We are fortunate to have a number of students who volunteer at the House. Some of you will be graduating and others will be going home for the summer. If your summer plans do not include volunteering with us, please notify Mary Friend at mfriend@rmhccin.org as soon as possible if you have not already done so.
Help Needed With Scholarship Breakfast

Since 2008, Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Central Indiana (RMHCCIN) has awarded more than $800,000 in scholarships to students in financial need who have demonstrated academic achievement, leadership and community involvement.

In 2018, RMHCCIN will award 20 Central Indiana high school seniors each with a $5,000 scholarship. The RMHCCIN Scholarship program is open to all Central Indiana students enrolling in a college or university.

The 2018 RMHCCIN Scholarship Ceremonies will be held at the Ronald McDonald House on Limestone Street on Wednesday, May 9.  We need help meeting, greeting and serving these guests, as well as cleaning up afterwards. If you are interested in helping with this special event, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 12 p.m., please contact Mary Friend at mfriend@rmhccin.org.
Yoga Anyone?

Houseguests, volunteers and staff are welcome to join our complimentary yoga classes on the first Monday of each month from 7-8 p.m. The next class will be held on MondayMay 7 so please join us! Thank you Kelly Alford from The Yoga Studio for your generous donation.
Look Who Was Caught Rolling Out The Red Carpet

Michael Rhinaman, Guest Services Assistant, caught Kim Webb, Guest Services Volunteer at Riley, displaying friendliness and compassion.

Michael wrote: "Kim loves to cook so she always calls the night before her shift to plan her day at the House.  More times than not, Kim will stay and volunteer for a double shift so she can work on meal prep for the upcoming week. When Kim is around, no one will ever go hungry! As a Riley grandmother, she is well aware of what it is like to spend time in the hospital and to have the resources of the House to fall back on. She always greets guest with a smile, a kind word, and demonstrates true compassion for what our families are going through. Kim has touched many lives in the two years she has served at the House."

Thank you, Kim. We appreciate your friendliness and compassion!

Congratulations! Your Crew Carwash pass is in the mail.

Remember, if you catch a volunteer rolling out the red carpet and providing an excellent family experience, please submit a nomination using the form below. Printed copies of this form are also available in the front office at both Limestone and Riley. Each month, all nominations are eligible for a random drawing for a Crew Carwash pass.

MISSION MOMENT
"Thank you so very much for the generosity you have shown my family and I during probably the hardest period of our lives. After my daughter was diagnosed with leukemia, I felt like my world was ending. While staying at the Ronald McDonald House, my family and I started putting it back together again.  Positive results and good news came during our stay and soon we got to take our daughter home. Thank you for helping keep my family together during this time."
