Glen Lake Swim 2025 Recap – “Fangs”🦈
The Glen Lake Swim in Goffstown turned the water into shark territory this summer, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Jaws with the theme “Fangs.” Swimmers braved one- and two-mile races under the watchful eyes of inflatable sharks, themed trophies, and plenty of ocean-movie spirit.
The event blended fast swims with pure fun — from fierce finishes to playful costumes — proving once again why Glen Lake has become one of the most unique stops on the USMS New England Open Water Series.
The Union Leader even featured the swim on its front page with a spotlight on local legends and pop-culture flair. Dive into the full article here: Union Leader coverage.
You can also check out results, history, and more details at the Glen Lake Swim website.
And don’t miss the official event photos — from swimmers flashing toothy grins to “shark bait” finish-line triumphs — this year’s Glen Lake Swim proved once again: you’re gonna need a bigger smile.

Richard Baughman (NEM-GSP, age 72) rewrote the record books with a 20:17.22, breaking both the U.S. Masters Swimming National Record and the World Record for men 70–74, previously held by Dan Kirkland (20:26.12, 2018). Kirkland’s mark had been the oldest national record on the books for this age group.
Baughman established control from the outset with an aggressive 1:16.13 opening 100, then settled into a smooth, consistent rhythm, maintaining splits in the 1:21–1:22 range through 1400 meters before closing hard in 1:18.33. He finished more than 17 seconds ahead of the runner-up, capping a masterful performance that showcased endurance pacing and precision execution. Congrats Richard!

The New England LMSC is diving head-first into Halloween spirit — and yes, even the water feels a little haunted this month! The Granite State Penguins hosted a “Spooky Practice” featuring DJ’s Cursed Set — a three-round monster of a main set:
🩸 200 on standard interval (SI)
🧛♀️ 50 easy on 1:00
🕷️ 100 on SI – 5
👻 50 easy on 1:00
Rinse and repeat… if you dare.
Have you tried these creative “ghostly drills”:
- Tombstone Kickboards – hold your board vertical for that extra drag (and extra doom).
- Zombie Arms Kicking – outstretched arms, flutter kick, and no sign of life.
- Frankenstein Freestyle – stiff arms, high recovery, and a look that says “I’ve been stitched together for this.”
- Witch’s Brew Bubbles – group kicking with cauldron-worthy underwater exhalations.
🎧 Keep the chills going with our Halloween Masters Swim Playlist on Apple Music — packed with eerie beats, aquatic anthems, and just the right amount of spook-tempo to keep your stroke in rhythm.
💀 Watch the Granite State Penguins’ spooky practice videos (complete with costumes, laughter, and probably a ghost or two in lane four), and share your team’s Halloween swim traditions with us — tag us on social media and we might share your team next!
