August 11, 2016

Sharing important news in a timely manner is important.  The news of Andy and Russ's loss highlighted for many of us the value of having our new Church app.  Within a matter of minutes I was able to send a short "push" message which came through as an special email for those of us who had the app installed on our smart phones.  And I've already heard several positive comments about having church information (events, calendar, prayer requests, etc) handy in one simple location.

23 folks have already installed this app on their smartphones, so 23 of us are already a bit more connected to their parish family.  I would encourage more of us to download this free app.  (My personal goals is for 50 or more of us to be on it).  Instructions for downloading the app can be found below.

One of the highlights of this app that I'd like to lift up is that this app allows folks to make prayer requests.  Others reading the prayer requests can then respond or in the very least commit to keeping these prayer requests in mind during their own prayer time.  If you haven't yet taken the opportunity to explore the Prayer Wall option, I encourage you to familiarize yourself with it.  Use this in your daily quiet time or before you retire for the evening.  Let's let technology help us in our spiritual lives rather than just being a mere distraction.

Blessings!

Fr. Dewayne

Keeping Andy and Russ in Prayer

By now all of should have heard the news that Andy Kinslow's mother passed from this life on Monday.  Her obituary was sent out in a special Around the Parish on Wednesday morning.  Her funeral was held this morning.

Bobbie was well known to many of us.  You could say that she was someone who lived life with gusto.  It was clear that she took a great deal of pride in her family, and of Andy's particular accomplishments.  Many of us would love to have a mother like that.

In the days, weeks and months to come, please keep Andy and Russ in your thoughts and prayers as they grieve this tremendous loss.

"Casual Church" During August

For the next few weeks worship will have a more casual feel.  We'll be singing more hymns and even using the piano more.  Eucharist  still contains all the appropriate pieces, but other than that, we're pretty "low-church."

All those desiring a more relaxed worship style, this is your chance to soak it all up!

St. Jerome On Twitter!

St. Jerome's now has a Twitter account!  This is one small step in our attempt to be more connected.  If you have a Twitter account, we invite you to follow the parish.  Our Twitter account is: @St_Jerome_tulsa  Help us spread the good news!

NOW, There's An App For That!

Have you ever forgotten that a parish event was coming up?  Or have you ever tried to find some announcement in the Around the Parish and had to dig through your emails to try to find the right edition and then scan through the email to find what you're looking for?  Have you ever thought of asking folks to lift something up in prayer?  Have you ever thought about watching one of the church's worship videos but didn't quite know how to find it on YouTube?  Well, now there is an app (at least a "trial" app) for that.

We're considering subscribing to an app service and now have a "trial" app for us to use.  It is really simple to download on any smartphone.  Simply go to your Play Store and search for Churchlinkapp.  Select the app and download. (The app is free.) Once downloaded, open the app.  Allow it to know your location.  In the search field, type in "the parish church of st. Jerome."  Select our parish, and you should be connected to our trial app.

With this app, you'll have access to announcements, events, reminders, calendar, prayer wall, worship videos, and NRSV Bible.  You can even call the church office from the app!

Food Pantry Help Needed

As you're aware, our Food Pantry is one of the strongest and most visible of our ministries to the Tulsa community. There are many jobs involved with this ministry, e.g. record-keeping, helping keep track of inventory, picking up and shelving foodstuffs, and, of course, helping out on the days when our shoppers are coming here for food.

If you believe in the value of this ministry and have even a little time to spare, we could use a bit of help in the Food Pantry. You don't have to commit to every week or for big blocks of time or to do it for the rest of your life! You can offer the time that you have and do what you can do. To visit with someone about this and find out more, please contact the church office: 918-582-3088.

Food Pantry Help Needed - Update

Thank you to everyone who has brought in brown paper bags for our food pantry. Our supplies are better now. Still, we use those bags every week, so we need to replenish our stock regularly. If you have extras that are clean and only lightly used, and if you can spare a few, please continue to bring them to the church at your  convenience. They will be put to good use!
