In a few months we will mark the thirteenth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, one of the greatest natural disasters ever to strike our shores. The images of Katrina are still seared in our minds, and people along the Gulf Coast are still struggling to put their lives back together.
Disasters like a hurricane can happen anytime, anywhere. They can force you to evacuate your home and eliminate the most basic of comforts. Therefore, preparation is power! St. Luke's Disaster Response Committee is already working to provide you with practical tips and information to help protect your family. In addition, we are building a Hurricane Response Team comprised of St. Luke's parishioners.
If you are interested in being on the Hurricane Response Team, fill out a Hurricane Response card and either mail it to the office or drop it off the next time you are in church. Hurricane Response cards and Copies of St. Luke's Disaster Preparedness and Response Plan are available in the church office for your review.
I am confident that we will be in a much better position to reach out to our own parish family as well as the community if a hurricane strikes our area this year.
