The Education Direction Committee (EDC) and the Arranger Certification Program (ACP) Coordinators are pleased to extend an invitation to all qualified members of Sweet Adelines International to apply for the Arranger Certification Program (ACP) Scholarships for the 2022-2023 fiscal year.

The ACP Scholarship Program is designed to be the last step toward accreditation as a Certified Music Arranger. Typically, this step follows several years of training and arranging experiences in developing complete arrangements – particularly those suited for competition. Often, the scholarship applicant has had arrangements sung by a performing group, providing valuable feedback. The applicant will need to demonstrate established skills by submitting three songs (one contest uptune, one contest ballad, and one free choice), arranged without receiving any help from others, to the committee for evaluation.

Applicants who are awarded scholarships will be paired with a Master Music Arranger (MMA) or a Certified Music Arranger (CMA) for formal, one-on-one mentoring for one year. The mentoring will focus on developing the scholarship recipient’s ability to create barbershop-style music for member use in contests as well as performances.

Individuals who accept an ACP Scholarship are expected to commit a significant amount of time to the mentoring partnership. At the end of two years of mentoring, scholarship recipients are expected to apply for CMA status. CMA's provide high quality arrangements to our members and may also be invited to teach at internationally sponsored educational events.

Scholarship candidates receive an annual $1,500 USD per year stipend, for a maximum of two years, which can be applied to expenses associated with the mentoring process. For the 2022-2023 fiscal year, five scholarships are available for qualified candidates.

If you are qualified and interested in applying for the ACP Scholarship, please review the application materials here. Applications, along with the $100 USD application fee, and three completed arrangements of a barbershop uptune, a barbershop ballad, and an a cappella free choice piece arranged in the barbershop style, as well as the original sheet music for each song, must be received by the Education Department at Headquarters by October 15, 2021. Applications will be reviewed by the ACP Scholarship Selection Task Force, with recommendations made to the Education Direction Committee for selection of up to five qualified candidates.

Scholarship training will begin May 1, 2022. Expenses incurred in training in excess of the $1,500 USD stipend are the responsibility of the candidate. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Tracy Shoghi at or at 1.800.992.7464.
