The Right Notes

Clinton Bands makes most of new instruments

The Clinton Band program recently completed the purchase of new percussion instruments for the 2025-2026 school year.

New percussion instructor Ryan Bays said these instruments are lighter and more mobile than their predecessors, citing the fact that the easier mobility will play to the strengths of the band during marching season as well as their indoor percussion season.

“They’re much more versatile instruments,” he said, “and just the look of them looks much newer and neater and nicer, and gives this group the look of a world championship winning band.”

Bays said the allure of the new equipment plays a secondary role in the recruitment and retention of students in the band program.

“The niceness of our equipment plays a huge role in students wanting to join our group,” he said. "I’m able to bring the 7th and 8th graders up here to see these instruments and they see how shiny and how nice everything is and how easy it is to move. It makes them that much more excited to stay with us through high school.”
