Going All In—From Ugly Sweaters to Unforgettable Moments

By Asia Cornelius, Eastside Elementary

December 2, 2025

Over the years, I’ve discovered that building relationships with students is at the heart of everything I do. It’s not just about getting them where they need to be academically; it’s about creating an environment where they feel seen, safe, and connected.

I want my classroom to be a place where we can learn, but also a place where we can smile, relax, and enjoy being ourselves.

One of the ways I’ve embraced that idea is by going “all in” during spirit days and spirit weeks.

From Active Duty to the Classroom: Military Leadership Parallels Education

By Jeanita Jefferson, Commander (Ret.)

November 18, 2025

After 22 years of coordinating search and rescue missions, managing emergency operations, and leading multi-agency security efforts, I’ve learned that leadership isn’t just about authority—it’s about connection.

Now in my third year teaching Coast Guard JROTC at Clinton High School, I’ve found that the same principles that kept teams mission-ready apply powerfully to the classroom.

Leadership in education isn’t a rank—it’s a relationship. And when we lead with purpose, we teach with impact.
