| | Fourth grade ACCENT students build Rube Goldberg Machines | |
Students in Eastside’s 4th grade gifted program ACCENT recently completed the planning, construction and implementation of their very own Rube Goldberg machines.
Led by ACCENT teachers Carley Marett and Antonia Stubbs, the students focused on challenging their thinking skills, communication skills and ultimately, their success skills.
Marett added that part of the project required these students to not just create a successful outcome but to work together as a team to make adjustments where adjustments were needed in order to be successful.
“They're learning that we don't always get it right the first time and to try and not give up,” adding that these sorts of experiences allow students to learn about determination and persistence.

When teachers foster positive, supportive connections with their students, they create a foundation for greater learning and engagement.
A positive teacher-student relationship builds trust and respect, making students feel valued and understood.

Why I Teach—The Calling
By Carlos Day
October 20, 2025
During those formative years of schooling, do you recall your answer to what you wanted to do when you grew up? This question was asked often by numerous people to start the thought process of your future.
It all depends on interactions, frequency, and the relationship that is being forged. My honest answer to that same question when asked at the aforementioned grade points was not being a teacher.
