During its August board meeting, the Mississippi Department of Education released state test proficiency scores and rankings for Mississippi public school districts.
Clinton’s cohort of third grade students ranked 5th in mathematics across the Magnolia State.
Northside’s principal Mandy Ambrose said keeping the math scores in the top five is an accomplishment that reflects the passion and dedication of the teachers towards their students.
“Our teachers understand that these test scores are the result of meaningful learning, not the goal itself,” Ambrose said. “They see each student as an individual, meet them where they are and then challenge and support them to reach their fullest potential."

CPSD's annual budget will enter its twelfth year without seeking any tax or millage increase.
CPSD superintendent Dr. Andy Schoggin and district financial director Libby Callegan presented the district’s annual budget that was previously approved in July by the CPSD Board of Trustees.
“We’ve always allocated the lion’s share of our resources to people, and making sure we have high quality educators in every classroom,” she said, “providing support services for every student that needs them.”
Dr. Schoggin said the district’s aim is to be as fiscally responsible with the resources allocated to the district while living up to the high expectations of parents and the community.

CHS teacher featured on WJTV's 'Cool Schools'
Trinity Burge-Walker was featured on WJTV's "Cool Schools" segment that featured her work inside the math classroom and as the yearbook sponsor and district photographer.

Parents with students riding the bus to and from school have a new method of keeping up with their child in the morning and in the afternoon.
Clinton Public School District’s Department of Transportation is utilizing The Zonar App that allows parents to keep track of their student’s bus via GPS.
Parents and guardians can download The Zonar App on both Apple and Android devices through the Apple App Store or Google Play.
In order to utilize the app, parents will enter the CPSD School Access Code, CLI3627. Parents and guardians will then search for their student’s bus route.
Once that information is inserted, parents and guardians will need to enter their student’s Student ID number.

Twelve years ago, I failed a test for the first time. I remember the score—a 62—written in red ink right next to my name. There were tears. Lots of them actually.
Contrary to what you might think, I wasn’t crying in fear of how my parents would react to the F, and I wasn’t worried about what the score meant for my grade in the class or for my GPA.
No, I was crying out of frustration. You see, the night before the test, I’d spent maybe a maximum of 30 minutes studying for it because I was expecting an easy A.

The Board of Trustees meet on the second Tuesday of every month.
These meetings are open to the public.

| | CAST builds momentum at Madison Central Invitational | | |
The Clinton Arrows Swim Team (CAST) showed steady improvement progress at the Madison Central Invitational on Saturday, August 29, at the GRIT Fitness Center.
The Arrows competed against Madison Central, St. Andrew's, Germantown, Northwest Rankin, Brandon, Pearl, and Ridgeland as the women's team placed fifth in the team standings, while the men's team came in fourth.
CAST Head Coach Marcy Rushing and CAST hope Clinton fans will come support the team at the Ashlee Sumrall Memorial Meet this Thursday, September 3, at the Clinton YMCA Pool. The meet starts at 6 p.m., and will feature swimmers from CAST, Warren Central, and Northwest Rankin.

Football falls to WC after second-half rally, 35-24
The Clinton High School football team dropped its season opener to non-region rival Warren Central, 35-24, on Friday night at Viking Stadium after a second-half surge by the Vikings.
The Arrows return to action Friday, September 4, traveling to Flowood to take on Northwest Rankin. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Lady Arrow XC claims victory at Southern Heatwave Classic
The Clinton High School women's cross country team claimed its first meet victory of the season, winning at the Southern Heatwave Classic on Saturday, August 29, at the City of Brandon Cross Country Trail.
The Clinton Junior High School girls also competed at the Southern Heatwave Classic, placing fourth in the team standings.
Clinton returns to action on Saturday, September 12, in the Fleet Feet Tupelo Invitational in Tupelo.

Men's XC wins Southern Heatwave Classic, second straight varsity win
The Clinton High School men's cross country team won the Southern Heatwave Classic on Saturday, August 29, at the City of Brandon Cross Country Trail, claiming its second varsity meet victory.
The Clinton Junior High School boys' team also competed at the Southern Heatwave Classic, placing fourth in the team standings.
Clinton returns to action Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Fleet Feet Tupelo Invitational in Tupelo.

Lady Arrows earn four MS Gridiron Top Performer selections
Three Clinton High School volleyball players have earned four Mississippi Gridiron Top Performer selections during the opening weeks of the 2026 season.
Taylor Finley, Maryan Ducksworth, and Jayla Hicks have each received recognition, with Hicks earning the honor twice.
Finley was recognized for the week of August 3-8 after she recorded 19 kills and four blocks for the Lady Arrows.
Hicks collected her second Top Performer recognition for the week of August 24-29 after adding seven aces, 22 digs, five assists, and two attacks.

The Clinton High School baseball program is inviting the community to tee it up in support of the Arrows during its annual Fundraiser Golf Tournament on Friday, October 2, at Live Oaks Golf Club in Jackson.
Team entry for the four-person scramble is $500, with the first 40 paid teams securing a spot in the tournament. Participants can also purchase hole sponsorships, mulligan packages, and compete in a variety of on-course contests throughout the day.
All proceeds benefit the Clinton High School baseball program.
Teams can register online by following the link below or by submitting a completed registration form.

The Clinton Athletics Department would like to remind fans of important Arrow Field and Clinton Public School District (CPSD) athletic facility guidelines.
These policies apply to all athletic facilities operated by CPSD, including Arrow Field, the Clinton High School and CJHS gyms, Arrow Baseball Field, Arrow Tennis Courts, and Lady Arrow Softball Field.
Facility Guidelines:
- Students will not be allowed to bring backpacks in the stadium, gymnasium, or fields.
- Adults may bring necessary bags such as diaper bags and other necessary bags
- Children and students in 8th grade or below must be accompanied by a parent or adult to enter the facility.
- Adults supervising students are responsible for student behavior during the event.
- Anyone failing to follow these facilities guidelines will be asked to leave the game and premises.
Let's continue to make Arrow Field and all CPSD athletic facilities a safe and family-friendly environment for all fans.

The ACT will be given at CHS as an "on paper" test on October 17 and December 12.
The deadline to register for the October 17 test is Friday, September 11. The deadline to register for the December 12 test in November 6.

Clinton High School's College Night will be Wednesday, September 9 from 5:00-6:30 in the CHS Cafeteria.
Juniors and Seniors can come by themselves, with their parents, or with friends and meet with representatives from different community colleges, four year colleges & universities, military branches, and scholarship organizations!
Sophomores are also invited to attend.
