HILL-STEAD, NEW BRITAIN & MUSEUMS AT YALE

OCTOBER 15-16, 2025

We will visit an exquisite house museum, and a breathtaking collection of American art near Hartford. Then spend a day exploring two world-renowned art galleries at Yale University in New Haven. Connecticut offers a rich cornucopia of cultural treasures, and is a delight to visit there in crisp, colorful October. I have selected some of my favorite places for this easy and affordable overnight Excursion.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15

Depart Philadelphia this morning for Connecticut. Lunch is included before we arrive at HILL-STEAD in FARMINGTON. This beautiful Colonial Revival home has an exceptional collection of Impressionist paintings and decorative art. Not far away is the NEW BRITAIN MUSEUM OF AMERICAN ART, where a special exhibit of etchings by the abstract expressionist Richard Pousette-Dart (1916-1992) is on view. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 16

Breakfast is included this morning before traveling to NEW HAVEN for guided visits to two iconic museums at Yale. At the YALE CENTER FOR BRITISH ART, the collections narrate the story of British life, art, and culture since the end of the Middle Ages. On view is William Blake: Burning Bright, showcasing the British writer’s illuminated books, watercolors, paintings, and poetry. Then visit the encyclopedic collections at the YALE UNIVERSITY ART GALLERY, the oldest college art museum in the United States. On view is Romney: Brilliant Contrasts in Georgian England. Depart New Haven in the late afternoon for Philadelphia. (B)
