NEW MURAL POPPING UP AT BLICK ART MATERIALS!

The Pockets of Perception (POP) - We Are One Community Design Team 2021 has been working hard this summer to create a new piece of public art for everyone to enjoy!
Stop by Blick Art Materials at the corner of Schlaff and Michigan Avenue (14339 Michigan Avenue) to take it all in.

This group is made up of students who worked together to create the mural design under the direction of artist/educator Sunshine Durant. They are part of each step in the process, from participating in team building exercises, interaction with professional artist mentors, conducting site visits, concept development, meeting the City of Dearborn's design review criteria, and executing the mural design.

Formed in 2010 by the Dearborn Community Fund, the POP program’s primary purpose is to address issues of cultural member diversity using a team approach to create public art in the community. Support for the POP 2021 project was provided by generous donors: Ford Motor Company Fund, the Kosch Family Foundation, R. W. Curtis, I. Osborne and community members. Blick Art Materials generously supplied the location for the mural.

Once completed, the mural will cover the entire side of the building and will have glow-in-the-dark elements. We can't wait to see the finished product! Thank you so much for making Dearborn beautiful!
PLATFORMS EXPAND OUTDOOR DINING OPTIONS IN DOWNTOWN DEARBORN

DEARBORN DISASTER RECOVERY CENTER NOW OPEN FOR FLOOD DAMAGE ASSISTANCE

A Disaster Recovery Center is open in Dearborn to help renters, homeowners and business owners affected by the June 25 – 26 severe storms and flooding at the following location:

Henry Ford Centennial Library
16301 Michigan Avenue
Dearborn, MI 48126

Hours will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET, Monday through Sunday.

Representatives from FEMA, U.S. Small Business Administration, Michigan State Police, Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division, and other state agencies are available to explain disaster assistance programs, answer questions about written correspondence and provide literature about repairs and rebuilding to make homes more disaster resistant. A state-run, multi-agency resource center is also co-located with the recovery center in Dearborn, where additional state and local resources will be available.

Individuals do not have to visit a recovery center to register or receive federal assistance. These centers provide a location for applicants to submit documentation or discuss their case in-person with a FEMA representative. Before visiting a recovery center, survivors should register for federal assistance one of the following ways:

  • Online at DisasterAssistance.gov
  • Using the FEMA App; or
  • Calling 800-621-3362 (including 711 or Video Relay). TTY users can call 800-462-7585. The toll-free numbers are open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. ET, seven days a week. Multilingual operators are available.

Anyone requiring a reasonable accommodation (ASL interpreting, Braille, Large print, etc.) may call 800-621-3362 to request assistance in advance or ask the recovery staff at the center for assistance.

Applicants and staff in the recovery centers will be required to follow CDC COVID-19 safety guidance.

For more information about Michigan’s recovery, visit www.fema.gov/disaster/4607. FEMA assistance is currently available to residents in Washtenaw and Wayne counties. The deadline for individuals to apply for disaster assistance is Sept. 13, 2021.

Bring your lawn chairs and settle in for a fun night. Movies begin after dusk, with the movie to start as soon as the night sky allows (approximately 8:30 p.m.).

REMAINING MOVIES IN THE PARK DATES:

Friday, August 13 – Dolittle - WAGNER PARK
Friday, September 3 – My Spy - CITY HALL PARK
